I'm thinking about getting a new gun. I'm looking at Benelli nova pump, 12g 26" barrel in max-4 camo. Also looking at Remington 870 tactical and Winchester sxp defender. Maybe even a Glock 21. I even considered a lever action 30-30. I've got plenty of guns just want a new one. I really don't even have a purpose for it.

At least you'd be able to still find ammo for the shotgun. The Glock21, not so much, although 45 is a little easier to find than 9mm right now it seems...

Also, pricing on shotguns (except maybe the "tactical" model) shouldn't be up too much in the current environment.

May I suggest putting your "just cuz" money towards accessories for the guns you do actually shoot? Maybe get a silencer before they further restrict NFA items, some nice optics/sights, or start reloading?

Yea, the lack of ammo def has me looking at a shotgun. I have a Glock 23c and a Ruger P89 that I won't shoot because I don't want to run out of ammo.

Once you reach a certain size in your collection and get the bases covered, just cause guns seem like a fine idea.

If you dont currently reload, a nice reloading setup would be a perfect investment, and it wont stop paying off if you shoot the popular stuff, even in times when ammo prices aren't ridiculous.

As far as "just cuz" guns, try to come up with something really unique that you dont have. I was in the same situation, and bought a Ruger no 1 in .458 lott, because i wanted something really big. A very nice change from my usual surplus firearms. Get something really different. And yes, a quality suppressor is a fantastic idea as well!

Buy the Benelli and add this before the feds freak out. I have dealer who can work around the 6 week wait order in most cases. If you buy their Remington platform it fits most all popular Remington shotguns with one unit. All others are.specific to particular model. 28 rounds in your shotgun without a reload is just freaky. Better buy it before a movie producer introduces it to the masses in an action movie.

About 650.00 without the gun.

If you don't have one, get a flint/match/wheellock and never be annoyed by ammo shortages again! Alternately, try a high power air rifle.

I thought about a lee load all, but those are sold out everywhere and so is red dot and green dot powder.

I had a Nova. Couldn't wait to get rid of the rattle trap. Completely unnatural POA and the forearm design encourages short stroking.

Get a decent 870.

So if the OP follows Joe's advice and
Buy a shotgun... buy a shotgun.

Is that how Joe denotes a double barrel or is he advising us to get two shotguns?

Is that two double barrels?

I'm cornfused again.

I hate to say this now but if I get to the just cuz point I will get a sxs double barrel. Just cuz I don't have one yet.

I have a couple Winchester 1300's and like the look of the new SXP, but have trouble getting into the idea of "made in Turkey".

I had the opportunity to handle and shoot some Turkish shotguns while I was stationed over there.

There are some very high quality shotguns made in Turkey. On the low end, you'll still get something on par with Mossberg or Remington for pumps and semi-autos, and NEF/ H&R for the single shots. Some of their O/U and SxS shotguns are truly functional pieces of art. Really, don't be put off by the "made in Turkey" if you are wanting a quality firearm.

One of my few 'gun regrets' was not buying at least one shotgun while I was there.

Yeah, I have been down this road myself. Sometimes, it is just cause it's there. Currently, I am seeking a good deal on a bolt action 30-06, maybe a Browning or a Winchester - no particular use for it, just want one.

I'm voting for the Nova or a lever 45-70. I own both. I have NEVER short stroked the Nova. Best/toughest shotgun I've ever owned. And my 1895 45-70? Well it will kill anything on the planet and you can load it to 30-30 levels, all the way to 3 shots and you're done shooting for a few days because your shoulder is throbbing.

Now before anyone goes verbally postal on me, I own an 870 also and it's a great gun.

If I were looking for "just 'cuz" gun, it would be a lever action rifle. Like the OP I already have quite a few shotguns so a rifle in .30-30 would make for a great addition. At a gunshow awhile back I found a Winchester Model 94 Canadian Centennial Commemorative that was used but in great condition. Since it was used and didn't have the original box and paperwork it wasn't something a collector would pay top dollar for. It was very reasonably priced and I liked it because it was different enough to set it apart from every other Model 94 out there.
