Just as the title infers I would like to know some of The High Road member's opinions.
Your opinion on guns in general that are gold plated or the Glock with a slide I'm considering getting plated by itself.

I don't want it to look too gaudy or too goofy overall.
I think the look has grown on me over time as all my guns are as plain and "stock" as can be.
If you can't stand Glocks and their look I suppose your already biased, ha!

What I heard.....

I've heard gold is hard to fabricate & work with. It can also scuff & nick quickly.
Id contact www.apwcogan.com . They do a lot of custom work. Bob Cogan has been in the US gun industry for decades. He had a gold choice but I think he cut it due to production/procurement issues.

I'll admit it's slick. :D
I'd look at the gold like Ti Nitride treatment. It wears better but has a gold color.

You did ask for opinions, so here goes. To me, the only place a gold plated gun looks natural is in the hands of a pimp or a South American drug lord. And only if the pimp is also wearing a large Fedora and fur coat.

Well, no matter how you slice it, it will be gaudy.

Goofy is in the eye of the beholder but gaudy is gaudy and it will be gaudy.
There is nothing subtle about a gold gun or slide like in the picture.
Subtle gold highlights may be less gaudy but gold is gold because it is gaudy.

Gold=gaudy and tacky

And yes, I do have two guns with gold on them, thankfully it's only the trigger and it's gold-toned, personally, I'd prefer regular blued steel, but it's not worth the effort to tone them down

The two guns? A Marlin 39a 1980 vintage, and a CZ Ultra Lux

If the gun has real gold plating it will wear off quickly if you plan to actually shoot it. There are guns that have gold colored parts that are titanium nitride which is durable. For example you can buy TiN bolt carriers for AR rifles.

are you a pimp?
Arab dictator?
Mexican drug lord?

answer is no?

then do not get a gold plated gun.

I have to say I couldn't resist this one. When my friend pulled it out of a box, I said" oh, you have a pimp gun!"

He said "this was my mother's purse gun!"

It was in such beautiful shape for 100 years old, that I couldn't pass it up. Got a decent deal on it too!

My daughter has already called "dibs".

I don't care for the looks of Glocks but this one looks pretty neat in gold.

In my opinion gold plated firearms are a poor investment. The gold used will only diminish in value and the gun will likely not be used for its intended purpose, that is shooting!

Hey, if you are getting it for looks, you have the money to spend, and its what you want, go for it. The black frame and gold slide would look pretty 80's, reminds me of those two tone ferarri rims.
I would be a little concerned about how well it would wear and what solvents might or might not take the plating off.

Well I'm already swayed away from this idea but please continue to post,
these are very funny responses.
I have to focus on making the choice of a red dot sight to put on my Glock now,
amazon.com (or opticsplanet) away.

I have a Taurus M85 with a gold plated trigger & hammer. The rest is a dark blue. It has rosewood grips & looks very nice! It also has a vented barrel. But I don't shoot it or carry it. It has been shot & will make a fine C.C. gun. I got it BNIB at a great price or I would not have bought it! It is going to a very nice young lady when she is old enough! :)

I think gold inlays on a deeply blued gun look nice if done tastefully, like seen on some presentation SAAs, or shotguns. Gold plating, on the other hand, not so much. Even if the material isn't actually gold, but something that you can use every day. I think with gold, less is more on firearms. Of course, that's an entirely subjective opinion, as opinions tend to be.

Stuff of kings, dictators and the very rich. Gun must be fully engraved. For an added touch, ivory grips. Not to be shot but only gawked at.

I like 'em. Especially when it has some parts blue and some parts gold. A really nice contrast.

Also, anything at all you can do to a Glock cosmetically will improve it.

Tacky... Unless you're a pimp, drug lord, or Castor Troy. Still tacky, but "fitting."

Oddly enough, APWCogan did the guns for "Face Off." I'm a friend of the employee that did the cutting and plating. He thought they were tacky, until he rented the movie. One night he said "My claim to fame, and Bob got the credit..."

Golden guns have 1 place-video games. In real life they shine so much that they are hard to get a good sight picture, plus they are hideous in general with very few exceptions.
