I had an opportunity to handle one of these the other day ... anyone out there have any personal experiences with this rifle?

I've had a S&W M4gery for 3 years. I have removed the FSB and added a free float tube. It has been rock solid. Fires everything, including wolf steel cased stuff without issue. I would have no issue buying another if the price was reasonable. That is the kicker. S&W makes a good AR, but with current prices there are, possibly, better values out there.

If your looking at the sport it is a hard one to do better for the price. No extra unneeded features. Just a solid basic rifle that can be bought for under 600 dollars. And all metal work is made in house. Unlike many others.

A good friend of mine has a M&P15. He bought it from a friend of his that was a SF soldier stationed at Ft. Brag, NC. He married a lady he met while he was in Germany and they ended up moving back there once he was out of the Army. So he sold all his firearms.

It's one of their higher end M&P15's. It was a non AWB compliant carbine so when my friend got it here in New Yorkistan he made it AWB compliant. He pinned the collapsible buttstock, removed the bayonet lug and changed the removable/threaded flash hider to a pinned/non removable muzzle brake. He uses the Aimpoint Comp M2 and Surefire light that were on it when he bought it. He added a front vertical hand grip.

He's had it for 2 or 3 years now and couldn't be happier with it. He's shot it quite a bit with a bunch of different ammo and it's always been good to go. IIRC, the M&P15's use a lot of CMT components, or at least they used to. I looked at a few different M&P15's when I was looking to buy another AR15 last month. However, I got a better deal on a Stag lower and upper with the Plus Package or else I probably would have bought an M&P15.

Our local Police Department (480 officers, one's a friend) has alway's used Smith & Wesson Hand Guns and Remington 870 Shotguns. Now they're getting some M&P15's for their officers too.

NYH1.

I've done nothing to my MP15 Sport but shoot it, and it hasn't missed a beat... I like it a lot!

I have a M&P sport and can't understand why I would need a "better ar". Its accurate, runs well. and all add'ons will wotk on it. All metal work is made in house too. No parts gun here. 1200 rounds fired.

Under $600?? Not in my neck of the woods..

I am building a 10.5 pistol using a stripped M&P Lower. Looks to be good quality with no problems assembling the lower.

Buddy had one that was labeled .223 and not 5.56.. and obviously would not run 5.56 ammo. He didn't even realize when he purchased it. So if looking, just make sure you get 5.56 so you can shoot everything.

I've had my M&P15 through two practical rifle courses and it worked great. I've no idea how many trips to the practice range it has made....lots. What I like best about it....it runs any kind of ammo you feed it....high dollar SD rounds all the way down to Tula steel cased. No jams, no malfunctions.

I've had one since 2008 or 2009. I love it and can't come up with a single complaint about it. I have the MOE version.
Long story short, it's reliable, more accurate than I am, has no issues with the 4 different kinds of mags that I use and runs everything from steel cased Russian to Hornady without a hiccup.

Been looking at these, especially the 5.45x39 model. Has anyone had to have warranty work done? The 1 year warranty keeps me from pulling the trigger on a S&W rifle.
