Howdy,
Hoping some knowledgeable people, hopefully with personal experience will respond. I wanted to know if the Millett Scope could be used as an acceptable replacement for a red dot sight for a WASR. Looking to keep the red dot capabilities and add the 4X for longer ranges. Thanks for any assistance.

I don't know if you've gotten your hands on one yet, so I'll approach this assuming you have not.

I have a Millett DMS-1 and it's a little heavy and long. Mounted on my flattop AR it extends from the rear or the upper receiver to about 2/3 or 3/4 down the handguard.

The 1x isn't really 1x until about 5 yards out; anything closer than that will get slightly magnified, but after that distance things seem to be unmagnified. Works well to 4x.

The illuminated reticle has 11 illuminated settings and an "Off" position, but the bonus to me is that you still have a reticle without illumination, unlike most other electronic red-dot optics. I'm not big into optics, but the only other optic I've read about that has this feature in the Leupold Mk4 CQ/T and that runs $700-800. The reticle is a "dot in a doughnut" circle-dot type with three posts, which appeals to me for my use at this time.

The dust covers that come with the scope are pretty cheap so if you want good dust covers get some decent ones elsewhere.

Not as quick on target perhaps as something like an EoTech or Aimpoint, but it works.

I've put less than 100 rounds through my rifle with this scope mounted and so far, so good. It's already gotten dropped from low heights (fell from being leaned against a table, car, etc.) a couple times with no noticeable damage or change in zero.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Gentlemen for your responses. I have a quick detachable Kalinka side mount with a Weaver rail on top. No access to the irons without removing the mount and scope. Eyes not doing well with a red dot, I get smears and multiple dots, poor accuracy potential as the distortion covers a 4" wide box at 25 yards. Have to guess where the center is. At distance my eyes are worse and I shoot handgun without glasses well, so I don't necessarily wish to have to wear glasses to use the red dot or scope. I've read and seen that the reticule on a regular scope is perfectly clear and I can concentrate on the target. On the negative side I don't want to loose too much on close up width of field viewing. Might this scope be the answer?

Hello highorder,
Did you find an alternative or are you just awaiting a bargain? Thanks for your response.

That seems the ideal setup. Expensive but the ability to remove the magnifier and get a real Aimpoint optic sounds great. Good luck.
