Like many other BP revolver fans, I value accuracy and reliability. After the Ruger Old Army was discontinued, I began to look for a mass produced BP revolver that would meet those two essential characteristics. One gun that struck my attention was the Pedersoli target version of the 1858 Remington. I understand this revolver is expensive, but is it as accurate and reliable as some claim? Or, are less expensive BP revolver very comparable to its performance? Thanks for your opinions.

Very good gun. I borrowed one to shoot in the 2002 World Championship (do NOT fly Alitalia) and was favorably impressed by it. The gun needed a trigger job to take out some creep, but the basic quality was good and the barrel-to-chamber alignment (the biggest problem with the Italian revolvers) was satisfactory.

Try the DGW Shooter's Revolver

I can't tell you yet. I have a Pedersoli due to arrive on a ship from Italy sometime in March: supposedly March 1st. If you have not bought by then, do write back. Flintlocks, Etc., charges about $850.

However, there is an alternative. DGW has the Pietta Shooter's Revolver; it costs about $600-$650. The older versions had gain-twist rifling and the newer ones do not, it says. I bought one some time ago and it is a really nice revolver and shoots well. The mechanical aspects are excellent: timing, alignment, cocking, trigger pull, etc. The fit and finish are very good. Best yet, is that it shoots very well and DGW gives excellent service.
