I've settled on this particular rifle as the front-runner in my search for a nice reliable centerfire rifle. I am fairly new to firearms in general, so I wanted to gather some opinions on this particular model.

I will be using the rifle purely for target shooting at the range, therefore the primary considerations will be long-term durability, ease of maintenance, and fit and finish. In other words, it has to survive a lot of rounds, be easy to clean after every trip to the range, and look nice too :)

I've read Chuck Hawks opinions on current production rifles, and while he has some valid points, most of his criticisms of the Tikka T3 in particular should be a moot point for me: (I just thought I'd check w/ the experts here first!)

1) I also do not like synthetic stocks, but I'm looking at a wood one w/ rosewood accents, so this shouldn't be an issue.
2) Bolt stop lug? I don't know what that is, or what short-action in a long-action receiver means, but my understanding is that if I get a Tikka T3 in 30-06, this point will not matter as a T3 in 30-06 is a long-action in a long-action receiver.
3) I don't know if the T3 Deluxe has plastic floorplates and trigger guards, having never seen one in person. Perhaps someone who has can weigh in. I'm very careful w/ my rifle and shotgun, so even if the Deluxe does have a plastic trigger guard, I don't think it will matter much to me. My two guns go from safe -> padded case -> firing bench then back again.
4) Fit and finish. I have seen some rough synthetic stocks, but again, I'm going for a wood stock. How is the fit and finish on wood-stocked T3's?

So, in short, I know that T3's have a reputation for accuracy out of the box. I'm hoping that the Deluxe is worth paying a little extra for, as a picture in a catalog is not the same as holding one in person.

I'm *not* an experienced firearms buyer, but I'm also *not* willing to spend a few grand on a rifle. I want something reasonable priced, very reliable, accurate out of the box, in wood furniture, with a bit of attention paid to the fit, finish and looks.

Other rifles I was also looking at include the CZ 550 and the Weather Vanguard. I like the looks of the T3 Deluxe over the Vanguard, and I already have a CZ 452 FS. I'd rather not have two rifles that looked almost the same. I wouldn't want my 452 to get jealous :)

I have the T3 Lite and my buddy has a T3 Hunter with the wood stock. His isn't the Deluxe, but the wood on his is very nice and the fitting is perfect. The barrel is free floated. The trigger guards are polymer and I don't know anyone that has had a problem with them.

The few Deluxes that I have seen have very nice wood and it would be a good rifle for your use.

If you scroll up this page, you'll see "Search", key in "Tikka", and you'll find lots of info on the Tikka.
