Hi everyone, I'm in the market for my first owned firearm, though I have shot plenty in the military. My primary interests are HD and taking it to the firing range. I am considering the ones below, thank you for any opinions or experiences you may have.

Ruger SR9
S&W MP9
Taurus 24/7 (pro or OSS)

I could not be happier right now over how the Taurus 24/7 OSS Tactical .45 ACP shoots. There are those who for what ever reason just hate Taurus Firearms, and that is okay as not everyone likes what they do either. I can say that this is one of the best semi auto's I have ever shot, which has much less recoil and snap than my Glock 22 that I used to own. The ammo that I used was all 230-gr FMJ remanufactured by a local company http://www.buyammo.com here in Montana that provides nickel cases at a much better price than store bought ammo @ $12.99 a 50 ct box.

Here is a stock picture from Gunblast that I have of my Taurus 24/7 OSS DS Tactical .45 ACP

All shots taken were rested (Pistol Rest) slow fire, to get the feel for the 24/7 OSS Tactical's ability for accuracy with it's 5.25" Match Barrel.

Here is me at 10 yards after shooting this nice target. Normally I use a B27 type of target but was limited for today since I was just getting used to this new pistol.

Here is that same target on the BG Target.

My first shot did shoot lower than that of the group, because it was in DA mode..... but I am more than happy as to the performance as I had no issues such as FTF's or Stove Piping etc.

I have not shot the other ones that your thinking about and I would have no doubt that the 9mm will shoot very much the same that my .45 ACP does.

Nice shooting, looks cold there. I'm up in MA and it's cold enough here...though I will be moving down to AL soon!

I've held the 24/7 pro and it fit my hand like a glove and that is what first turned me on to it. The M&P and SR9 also felt pretty nice, but not quite as well.

I was in your position about 18 months ago and after looking around and trying out quite a few guns decided to look for a Glock 19.

I didn't find a 19 ... but I did find a Glock 26, and have been very happy with it.

Had long guns for as long as I can remember, but this was my first handgun. Also bought a 22lr conversion kit for it, which makes for a really cheap afternoon at the range.

Good luck in your search. You -really- can't go much wrong with any of the major players ... pick what fits YOU best.

Thanks for the info mgkdrgn, I shot a Glock 19 awhile ago, plus I can get the military discount. I would like an external safety though, (not absolutely required) I have an 18 month old and even though the gun will be in a safe...it's a piece of mind thing.

I'm heading to the S&W factory up here in the next couple of days to check out the M&P and test fire it.

Both triggers a little grity but after 100 rounds and a little cleaning nice as can be .same pull all the time.
