optic for shotgun and ar

Yes I want it all. I have an 870 that I would like to put a quick acquisition optic on and I would like to use it on my AR also. Red dot or....what do you suggest?

Nothing is faster on a shotgun then a brass bead front sight.

At the ranges involved with a shotgun you don't need an optic (unless you are a deer hunter shooting sabot slugs at 100 yards).
It will slow you down on fast moving close-in shotgun targets.

If you really have your mind set on getting a sight that will be usable on both the shotgun and an AR platform, I'd recommend an EOTech, maybe a 511 or similar.

Just remember that you're going to have to adjust the sight each time you put it on and off the rifle...

It seems kinda "tacticool" though...

I put a pressure activated laser on my Beretta 12ga semi, but mainly just because it was laying in a box collecting dust. It looks impressive, but it's really no faster than just putting the shotgun to your shoulder and lining up the bead. The laser does have the advantage in hip shooting though, obviously.

My main concern is that the sight height is so different on a shotgun between a bead and optics. You either need one heck of a cheek riser, or a different stock entirely.

You should perhaps add a caveat to the above. If it were the case for all types of shooting the top open class three gunners wouldn't run optical sights. Some types of shooting benefit from a red dot and some do not IMHO.
