Optics on an integral handle AR

If you want more than iron sights, how do you handle it? Looks like the rifle that is in my budget also has a non-removable handle. If you have pics of your handled AR with optics I'd like to see.

Checked out CMMG to see if they're still doing their bargain bin? It's a great rifle, mine did everything it was supposed to with no issues, comes as a flat top with no rear sight. I threw on a cheap I think Tru-Glo 2x red/green dot and a standalone A2 type sight and called it good.

You can get or build a flat top AR for around $700, which is often cheaper then an AR with fixed carrying handle.

Several companies sell rails that attach to the carry handle. As well, several optics manufacturers like Aimpoint and Trijicon sell carry handle mounts for their optics. I would encourage you to save your money for a rifle with a flattop upper receiver/removable carry handle. The problem with carry handles is that they are very high, and mounting optics on top of them drastically increases the height of the line of sight of the optic. This is not ideal for reasons of accuracy, no/poor cheek weld, and the ever common craning of the neck which leads to neck pain during extended use.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your budget? Which rifles have you looked at/are you considering?

I'm considering a Colt AR6520 because I can get a pretty good deal on one.

I'm also considering a flat topped AR10, too. Still deciding and just getting my questions asked and aswered.

But as far as AR 15's go I am limiting myself to Colt, BCM, Noveske, And Daniel Defense. The reason I'm looking most seriously at the Colt is money and availability. But I am, admitedly, not into the carry handle.

I guess I should know by now not to buy something you already know you'll wish you hadn't.

And to get really long winded...

Part of the AR 15 is for my son to shoot with me. I really want him to learn rifles. But I've also considered getting an AR10 for me, and getting him his own M&P .22 for Christmas. He's eight.

Yep... planning out the family arsenal.

One of the first ARs I ever purchased had the carry handle. I mounted a Vortex strikefire in front of the carry handle. It co-witnesses perfectly with the iron sights.

I have a few other ARs but the carry handle in that configuration is my close in (100 yrds or less) brush hunting pig popper. Never have wanted to change the set up.

The flat top gives you more options for optics for sure and that is why I have a few flat tops. You can buy a bare bones flat top receiver for less than $100 and change out your barrel etc. etc.

If you ever want to sell the carry handle it might be harder to sell; a possible consideration.

I found my AR. Local shop has a Colt LE6940. Instead of an integral handle is has an integral rail. Exactly what I want.
