I recently liberated my Leupold Vari-X IV LR scope to replace a "vertically disinclined" Vari-X III on my 300 Win. (The old scope would run out of adjustment at 600 yards).

I'm shopping for a new scope for my Barrett M95. A high amount of eye relief, vertical adjustment, and perfect tracking with an adjustable range around 3.5 and 12x are my main considerations.

Is the Leupold Mark 4 with 65 MOA vertical adjustment the best thing going right now for long range shooting?

Any suggestions?

Most shooter in the long range game are shying away from leupold, not saying their bad scopes just not great for the money. If your running out of elevation you need a tapered base, most likely your using alot of travel just zeroing if your running a flat base. I would look toward the bushnell elite, vortex or nightforce scopes. I prefer the quality of those to leupold. What ever you choose get adjustments to match your retical.

I would suggest a 20 MOA base (picatinny) 30mm rings and a NightForce NXS scope. Call Lilja Precision and they can hook you up and get you started in the right direction. Ordering from them is cheaper than ordering directly from LightForce.

Not hardly.

Over 100MOA of vertical here on an excellent scope. I have one like this and one of the same scope with an illuminated reticule.

I also have a Bushnell Elite 3-12x44 FFP that has mil/mil reticule and turrets that I would put against and Leupold. It also has a 80 MOA adjustment range. The 6-24x50 Elite Tactical has 70 MOA now (my two are previous models with less adjustment). The 3-12x44 was an Editor's Choice award winner from Outdoor Life. You can see a video review of the 6-24x50 here.

Depending on your budget, there are many excellent long range scopes on the market now and these days many, many experts wouldn't consider any Leupold in the top 10.

Great info guys, much appreciated. I haven't been scope shopping in a long time - and at this price level it's better to ask before jumping in with both feet. :)
