what are some rifle options for the 6.5x55? i like the tikkas but nobody has them in stock and sako is a bit out of my price range

thanks
Ian

Buy a used Savage / Stevens long action with a .473 bolt face, unscrew the old barrel, and screw on a Swede drop-in barrel. Use Rem / Win / Federal brass as they have a .473 head. I think this would make a great budget build.

Yeah, just limit your options and go to a lot of unnecessary trouble and expense to get a 6.5mm.
Or get a 25/06, a 270, a 7mm/08, or a 308.

Probably the best option is to buy an old '96 military Mauser and mount a scope on it.
Mine was made in 1907 yet it will hit a dime at 100 yards.
I like it so much I bought two more. One in original configurations and the other has the bolt handle turned down and scope rings mounted. The previous owner guarantees it will shoot half minute of angle. (1/2 inch at 100 yards) These are precision made instruments and they will all shoot as there was no war time production.

I already have an old swede mauser(1911) but its in AMAZING condition and I would never wanna scope it, thats why im lookin at modern hunting rifle options because I really like the round

I just bought a Winchester M70 featherweight in 6.5x55. It is a beautiful gun in 98% condition. From what I understand they made 1200 or so in the mid eighties for export to Europe but the dealer in Europe didnt have any cash so they distributed them here in the US. There is one on gunbroker unfired for $1300. Probably not what you want as that is now a safe queen. I got mine for $899.

Cant wait for deer season.

I bought my last 6.5 Swedish Mauser Monday for $250.00 and it will soon be wearing a Leopold.

Howa also sells 6.5x55 in this country

If you really want a 6.5x55 go to a dealer willing to special order for you.

Tikka and CZ is a great choice. Howa, not as good as the first two. Or at least that is the way it is at my house.....:D

There is 2 Tikka's on GunBroker right now. One new, one used.

Any chance of replacing the barrel on the CZ with a 1:8 twist? That single factor makes me want to save up for a Sako, but at more than 2x the cost. :fire:

Get a Tikka. Same gun as Sako, less cost.

Don't want the plastic. At least CZ uses quality materials.

The quality is there with the Tikka. Mine will shoot, shoulder and handle better than my CZ.

The plastic will be fine for a long time. You can also upgrade the plastic. There is a guy online that makes metal replacements.

What grain bullets do you want to shoot? What is wrong with the 1:8?

Replacing the plastic Tikka parts may make it worth the while. I wonder how much closer that makes it to a real Sako(?)

Nothing wrong with the 1:8. That's what I want. CZ has 1:9

I found a Tikka 6.5x55 a few years ago (BTW fantastic rifle), they are supposed to bring more later this year, if you don't want to wait the CZ or Howa are fine choices too.

Im working on a mauser build project right now that im making a 6.5x55. I hear so much good i cant wait to see how it shoots! I love my savages as well. If i didnt already have most of the parts purchased for the mauser build, this is the way i would go. Plus, im looking to build more mausers in the future. My 308 savage may just be wearing a new barrel by next year....
Im with a lot of these guys. If you really want a sako, just save up. It will be very worth it in the end. If you need it now, buy a tikka, howa, savage.... And change out parts as you go.

Haxby...
Why limit yourself to 25/06, 30/06, 308, 270... When the 6.5x55 is so much more ballistically advanced.. with low recoil, astrinomical ballistic coeficent, amazing wind drift performance and super penitration... Sounds like the 6.5x55 is the cartridge that always was...
