Orange Camo BDUs...WHY?

Also, just for the record, if you sit down, deer will often walk right up to you, even during hunting season. It seems they have much greater fear of a human standing on two legs. When they see humans sitting down, they seem more curious than afraid.

By the way, Wild Turkeys are not color blind, and will be unimpressed by any orange camo:)

Orange BDU's ... It's all begining to make sense ...

President Bush is planning on invading south eastern Quebec during the first week of October. Probably to uncover the massive stockpile of maple syrup that the Canadians have been hoarding ...

:fire: I'm thinking of suing this guy... :cuss:
Actually... Let me tell you how it (that first camo pattern, all orange and stuff) came about.

Mrs. Drang-to-be and I were pretty active at the time (early '90s) in the local Sceince Fiction Conventions, and she knew ALL of the costumers; they were all pretty disgusted with people wh would throw on neon clothing and call it a costume. Meanwhile, I, being halfway thrugh my Army career, was pretty disgusted with people who woul go to Joe's surplus, by amn old uniform (BTW, that second set of camo is more-or-less Vietnam era Tiger Stripes) and call that a costume.
So we spent MONTHS with some old BDUs and a ton of neon-colored fabric paint converting a couple of sets of old BDUs to uniforms of the "Middle-aged Mutant Mercenary Mammals"--oh, yeah, Teen-aged Mutant Ninja Turtles were all the rage, too.
What really burned my @$$was that, we get on stage and the freakin' tech crew gets the lighting instructins wrong and uses filtered light, so all that work and no one got the full impact of the neon fabric paint! :fire:

I'll see if I have a photo and post it.

Keep in mind that here in Kali, orange camo won't keep some idiot from taking a shot at you because he thought he saw a deer that works for Cal-Trans. Trust me on this one. I haven't done any deer hunting during rifle season in KA. in a long, long time since then.

Deer cant see orange, and I believe turkeys cant see blue (something about turkey decoys having blue parts on them that humans could see, but turkeys would think they were normal).

OK, here we go, Mr. and Mrs. Drang as the Middle-aged Mutant Mercenary Mammals from the planet Fuschia...:D

BTW, when I was stationed at Ft. Cartoon, CO  I tok the CO Hunter's Ed class and they said the state had run tests of "blaze orange camo" and determined that at ranges greater than (I think) 50 yards all the colors run together into a muddy brown, which is why BO camo :what: is illegal in many states.

Blends in great with the leaves in the fall in places like Eastern Tennessee, Kentucky and I'm sure most Eastern states. The colors are very bright. Reds, oranges, yellows. Quite beautiful in the East in the Fall I must say.

For the red. Mars. Those Martians are quick and tough. :)

For the second one, watch some video of the Russian Spetnatz (sp?) fighting in Chechnya. Blues and grey work well in urban rubble.

Navy Joe,
You can usually get Alpenflage from Cheaper Than Dirt.
That's one pattern that I always thought must only work well in a very limited area.

First off the blaze orange bdu's shown are not blaze orange. They would be illegal to hunt in most areas requiring blaze. Blaze orange is a very specific color. Camo blaze can have black on it and blaze, thats all I ever have seen that is legal. The black can be irregular patches or branches but the blaze has to be true legal blaze color.

The reason for many of the multi color BDU's and BDU shorts is that kids buy em' for the skate boarder style of it all. It has nothing to do with camo. Its all style. You will not find stuff like that at bass pro shops or cabelas or gander mountain. That should have been your first tip off. Its not about hunting. Its about youth wanting a cool something or other to wear. At least they see it as cool.

but it's not like you're sneaking up on a rocket scientist or anything.
Assuming of course that rocket scientist stalking is legal in your jurisdiction, I think pocket protector and palm pilot would make you blend in better than blaze orange... :p

"Drive along the east coast in the fall and you'll see where orange camo would work.....even for those not color challenged."

That's very true. New England in October - you'll disappear in the woods wearing that thing.
