I'm drafting plans for my summer, basement gunsmithing project: a straight-pull, bolt-action AR-15. Is there any place that sells AR barrels w/ no gas-port drilled into them? Are there any AR barrels that allow you to switch the gas-port on/off (like Rugers SR 556)

I don't know of any barrels that are not pre-drilled.
There may be some that I don't know of however.

You can get a JP gas block with an adjustable valve, which I beleive would allow you to shut off the gas entirely.

The gas port in the barrel won't hurt anything as far as accuracy or function if you seal it closed with something.
So, you could use a standard railed clamp-on gas block without a sight and install it rotated 90 degrees either right or left.
That will cause the gas block wall to seal off the gas port in the barrel.

Or, you could machine a .750" ID steel sleeve to press fit on the barrel and block the port.

White Oak or CLE will send you a barrel any way you want it. Hart and Krieger will chamber a barrel and I'd be surprised if they wouldn't not drill the port if asked.

I've drilled, tapped and put a set screw in the port on several barrels. These were for play M4s. I take an old service rifle barrel and cut several inches off the chamber end, re-thread and chamber. Plug the old port and drill a new smaller one for the shorter barrel.

As I recall there is a pump action AT that was made for export to california and other foriegn countries. That might be a good place to start.

I built one from a Shilen match select blank. You can buy the barrel extension and cut the threads to fit. Viola', 27.5" single shot barrel.
