I am thinking about ordering a field grade M1 Garand from CMP, due to the amazing price.
The only problem is, I saw that you have to take one of their classes, or a shooting class that they recognize. There's no classes near here, nor do I want to take one.
I remember reading somewhere that you can order from them if you are a war vet, but I'm not sure if this is true, and I can't find it on their website.
If anyone here can verify this for me, it would be very helpful.

I'd recommend the Service Grade for $100 more.

They will recognize virtually any class.

I'm pretty sure your DD214 will suffice. If you served you should be exempt from the training class. Or, well, to be more accurate your service is the necessary training.

What Warp said.

The eligibility requirements are pretty easy to meet without jumping through hoops. The CMP web site and eligibility requirements page.

I agree, get a service grade for your first Garand. You will not be disappointed.

Field grades can be nice but generally need some TLC up front.

Get a Service Grade, I have personally handled many many hundreds of them at the Stores and most are in need of a rebarrel. If you can get to a Store to handpick they are worth a look as there as a few Gems mixed in but I would never take a chance on mail order

Not sure what you mean by taking classes??
If you are a Vet it takes care of firearms activity but still need club membership
Join the M1 Collectors Club for $14 to fullfill club membership

If you need help with this PM me
