I've got the very first model that Kimber came out with...the Custom Classic. If memory sevres I bought the pistol in either 1996 or 1997. The pistol is marked " Clackamas, Oregon". It has been excellent and shoots into one hole. The only problem is the black oxide finish. It's pretty soft and is starting to show some signs of accelerated wear. As this is being written the pistol is still in about 98% condition but I can see where I'm going with the finish. My delimma is whether or not to have the pistol hard chromed. I'm not a big proponent of altering the manufacturer's finish on any firearm, as this pretty much destroys any collector value the weapon might have at some future date. So here's my question: Will this pistol ever enjoy any collector's value or should I just go ahead and and have a nice, durable hard chrome finish applied? I do have other 1911s so I could retire this pistol for the collector's value and use one of the others. Help me out here guys. What do you think?
