I had been wanting a original civil war era rifle musket for a couple years.

Kind of a pricy item around here. Even sawed off or otherwise altered muskets sell high, or at least the ones I find do. The reproductions ain't all that cheap either!

I took a gamble and bought a P53 rifle musket from International Military Antiques. Muskets from long term storage in Nepal, and not in top notch condition. IMA has these for $250, and shipped mine quick! Musket arrived Friday, tracking number said next Monday?

Definately not a pristine antique. I received a nice project rifle, a second model P1853 style Enfield. Most of the main metal parts are servicable, lock and barrel are good, most of the fittings are fine too. The stock needs some work and repair, but will be fine. The wood screws are rotted, and some of the other screws are junk too.

With some time and effort, a few replacement screws, should have a perfectly shootable P1853 Enfield.:)

I've never rehabilitated a muzzle-loader before. Is there any useful restoration info floating around the internet I may have overlooked?

Thanks, Stevie.
