Anyone here own one of these? I ask because of the non-reaction when I suggest one in threads asking for a semi-auto .22 recommendation.

Does anyone (owners!) here feel like giving their opinions? I think the old things are phenomenal. Mine only jammed once, with the first magazine. It had sat for 40 years when I got it and was a little sticky. A few drops of oil and it's been feeding perfectly with all ammo since.

They've got a trigger to die for. I've owned two (sold one) and both of 'em were/are the same, extremely accurate and 100% reliable. I'll put it up against any semi .22 out there.

Then, there are the looks. When I go to the range, somebody always comes over to investigate. What's cooler? Really?

Post some pictures, folks. Anyone have one of the nickel plated ones?

I bought one a few months ago; couldn't resist either the price or the looks. It's essentially LNIB, although it didn't come with a box. I have yet to get it to the range, but it's in my summer plans for sure. Happy to have it, by the way: It's surely the original Space Ray Gun from the 1950s, if ever I saw one.

I've got one -- haven't shot it yet.
I'd like to find some more mags for it

You guys gotta go shoot the things. I think you'll like.

Note: Olympic Arms' new Wolverine mags fit the originals, I think. Also, when you break it down for cleaning, be careful as there's this little piece that's easy to lose.

I love mine. Points naturally and is very accurate. And has that funky look.

One of my favorite pistols.

I have both an original and one of the Olympics. They are indeed one of the most naturally pointing pistols I have ever held.

They can be picky about ammo; the cheap stuff doesn't always feed well.

Would someone post a closeup pic of the rear site and maybe some measurements? I have to fab a replacement for mine, the Oly doesn't use the same site.

You might be able to buy a new sight here, its listed for $5.00:

Its really not easily possible to fabricate a new rear sight for the original Whitney since it was made from a piece of stamped sheet steel that was curved into a shape that would slide into the grooves in the top of the frame.

The actual sight is a simple notch on the front side of the sight, with a larger notch on the rear.
This gives the sight a shadow box effect to prevent glare.

I'd suggest looking for some small diameter steel tubing that you can cut in half length-wise and will slip into the grooves with enough tension to hold in place.
Many hobby shops sell small tubing for model train use.
