Can a qualified gun owner from another state:

1) Bring a long gun to Massachusetts to sell to an FFL at a gun show?

2) Buy a long gun from an FFL at a Massachusetts gun show and bring it back to the state of residence.

The answer hinges at least on whether an out of state resident can possess an unloaded long gun in Massachusetts (as the can in upstate New York and Connecticut.

I don't believe so.
Mass has tough gun-laws (like ten-year mandatory JAIL sentence for gun-related lawbreaking)!

I wouldn't do the things you just mentioned as I don't feel like living in jail. Part of the problem as well is, you ask five different law enforcement people and you may get five different answers from "Yeah, go ahead, not a problem," to "if you are caught, jail time" --- and all answers in-between!

You can sell a rifle to a dealer in MA, but you cannot purchase a rifle in MA.

Can the out of state resident possess his long gun in Mass.?

Is this about you or someone else? I'm asking because NJ laws also have to be considered if that's the case.

New Jersey resident with the FID card can purchase and take delivery of a Long Gun from an FFL in states like PA, NY and Conn. Same as buying a Long Gun in NJ.

Out of state FFL must keep the New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility that goes with the sale of the gun for something like 10 years after the sale.

FFL in PA, NY and Conn know the drill.

Yes.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to the following exempted persons and uses:
(h) Possession of rifles and shotguns and ammunition therefor by nonresidents traveling in or through the commonwealth, providing that any rifles or shotguns are unloaded and enclosed in a case;

(i) Possession of rifles and shotguns by nonresidents while at a firearm showing or display organized by a regularly existing gun collectors' club or association;

(u) Any nonresident who is eighteen years of age or older at the time of acquiring a rifle or shotgun from a licensed firearms dealer; provided, however, that such nonresident must hold a valid firearms license from his state of residence; provided, further, that the licensing requirements of such nonresident's state of residence are as stringent as the requirements of the commonwealth for a firearm identification card, as determined by the colonel of the state police who shall, annually, publish a list of those states whose requirements comply with the provisions of this clause.

What about this?
Is NJ on the list?
