My dad has a bunch of handguns that he is in the process of selling or giving away to his sons. Two of us live out of state from him. Under current federal regs, must the guns be transfered through a FFL?

There are no state laws inhibiting the transfer on either end, and all involved parties are legal to own/possess the guns.

Thanks.

Yes, if the father and the son live in different states.

Hey Fly320s, maybe I can return the information you provided me in my thread :)

According to this thread:

Whether he is gifting them to you, or selling them to you. You do in fact have to use an FFL for the transfer. Apparently, if he were already deceased, and you were inheriting them from his estate, then you could transfer them without an FFL.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Technically you have to use an FFL but ....

If your dad lives in a no registration state and you live in a no registration state no one needs to be the wiser on this PRIVATE FAMILY MATTER. Go visit him and bring them back with you.

If he bypasses the FFL, it would be a really bad idea to use one of those firearms in self-defense. He really wouldn't want to report one of them as stolen either.

Wilfull misinformation

STILL exhorting people to violate Federal law, I see - on at least 2 forums. :scrutiny:

Fortunately, the OP seems to be intelligent enough to ignore your ill-considered and deliberate suggestion to qualify for Club Fed.

But then, who believes a "city slicker"?

HINT: This forum has a LEGAL section for a reason - questions like THIS!
