Last night, after getting my 5 year old son ready for bed, I told him that we could stay up and watch TV for about 15 minutes before he had to go to bed.

Flipping through the channels, I found a show called 'Weapons of the SS' or something like that on the Military channel.

The commentators of the show were talking about the SS and different weapons and my son, being inquisitive as he is started asking questions:

"Dad, are those the good guys?"

"No, those were some of the very worst and most evil people who ever lived."

"Are they still around?

"No, they lived a long time ago, your Great Grandpa who was a good guy fought against them"

"Where did they go?"
"Your Great Grandpa and a lot of other people had to make them go away."

On the TV, they started talking about the Sturmgewehr and one of the comentators ripped off a few rounds at a range.

"Dad! Look at that gun! Its the coolest gun ever! Mom!!! Come look! You have to see this gun, they said its a submachinegun and a rifle!"
(son visibly agitated and excited)
"Mom, that gun is so awesome! Dad, get I get one?"
"Dad were those guns used by the good guys?"
"No, those were used by the bad guys"
"But we can still get one right?"

Mom intervenes....
"Time to go to bed.... and Dad, no more watching gun programs with the kid"
:eek::rolleyes:

So, you're telling me that you have brainwashed your child into thinking that the guns used by the bad guys WON'T start murdering people if you happen to purchase one now?

How dare you!

:rolleyes::p

my 8 year old is desperately trying to get me to buy every gun that he sees me shoot in Call of Duty 4... he just cant understand that i dont really need a SAW, a RPD and a M60

Now see the way it was always explained to me was just because the bad guys used them didn't neccassarily make them "bad guns". If the good guys used those guns they'd be "good guns" right?;) (fingers crossed hoping to get one...fro the good guys of course)

Well, you DO need a SAW AND an RPD. Reloading just takes to long, so you switch to it instead.:D

Oh and...

"Think of the children!"

My 7 y/o/ son watches Wednesday night at the range with me every week...until he nods off..usually about 1/2 way through "Sighting In" .

Brainwashing nearly complete...

My 2 1/2 year old sees me packing evey day for my job and he knows that I keep the guns in a locked den in the basement. Every couple of days or so, he looks at me and says, "see guns downstairs." So if he behaves, I take him down and let him look at this or that and explain things the best I can in terms I think he can understand. A few days ago, the satelite TV guy came over to put in another receiver and my son looked him right in the eye and said, "guns downstairs". I need an alarm system.
