I know there are a few fellow East Tennesseans on here so maybe you can help me with this. I'm looking for an outdoor shooting range around the Knoxville area (I'm in Maryville). Or maybe even a private piece of land that you are allowed to shoot on. I like indoor ranges, usually, but spring is coming and I'd much rather be outside.

Thanks!

Bulldog,

The best range in the area is the Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association club up in Oak Ridge. It's about a 40 minute drive from Maryville. It is an excellent members-only club. Dues are about $100/yr.

I don't have the link to their website, but Google will.

There is also a small police range just west of Maryville on 311. You can buy a yearly membership by donating to the local F.O.P. The range is just a 50 yard square range, but it is hardly used and there aren't any onerous rules to prevent one from having fun. I like being able to shoot and move, while using both rifle and pistol.

An officer on the local tactical team for the city/county that the range is in (I can't recall the name) teaches classes at that range. He is a very nice guy and he allowed me to shoot a mag of ammo through his department-issued MP5.

I'm using a dial-up internet connection right now, so I won't take the time to map it for you. But if no one has given you the info by Wednesday I will.

Chilhowee Rod & Gun Club just south of Athens, TN. A bit far from Maryville, but a good range - outdoor pistol, skeet, archery, rifle (50, 100, 150, 200 yd) and a 7 acre private lake.

When the rains come, and the heat starts to make the bugs and the snakes wander around come on down to Coal Creek Armory where it's never cold or wet or snaky and it's always 70 degrees.

Thanks for the info guys. Fly320s, I'm really interested in checking out that police range. Nothing formal, just want to have some fun. I picked up a .22 pistol this weekend so I'm itching to shoot all the cheap ammo :)

Old thread, but I am highly interested. Looking at relocating to Maryville/Blount County, and indoor galleries simply hold NO appeal. I see no challenge in shooting at something only a few feet away, over an hour is a LONG time just to burn 20-30 shells and never mind most don't allow rifles. Surely there's a 100-200 yard rifle range somewhere in Blount/Loudon/Monroe Counties?

Chuck Swan is Union county, Cumberland is Scott county, the other is the tri cities, and you can't plink at John Sevier. I can't believe that my only options are Norris or ORSA.

Loudon County FOP has a range off I-75 at the Sugar Limb exit. You have to join the Loudon FOP at the top of Sugar Limb Road (The Justice Center). It's around 20-25 bucks a year.
