Hi there!

I know of the indoor range atKnoxville's Coal Creek Armory (which has very reasonable summer rates, it turns out!), but I wonder if anyone can point out to me other options, outdoors especially, in eastern TN. (I'm east of Knoxville, but don't mind a drive for good reason.)

In Pennsylvania, there are tax-paid ranges (I forget under which agency or area they fall -- recreation? conservation? forestry?), where -- at least as of a few years ago, not sure if anything's changed -- you could show up, set up your targets, shoot and leave. (And, if you're lucky, pick up some abandoned brass as well.)

Any suggestions for good places to go plinking? (Not hunting, nor do I need a 1000 yard stretch -- for my eyes and skills, 50 yards is pushing it ;)) I don't know much about the rules in national forest land, though TN does have some of that, too.

Suggestions welcome -- And have a good Independence Day!

p.s. I'm pretty sure I asked this question a while back and got some decent answers -- but now I can't find it, scrolling into my old posts. Mea culpa ...

The range in Norris is good. I've been there once. There's no website, but if you go to the police station there, they'll give you a key (for one day it's $20 + another $20 as a deposit, for a yearly rate it's $40). I'm saving my pennies for the Oak Ridge Sportsman Association.

ORSA in Oak Ridge, Commercial ranges/clubs near Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Wears Valley.

ORSA as mentioned above in Oak Ridge is a great club. In addition to very nice facilities they host monthly IDPA-USPSA-Steel Challenge, and SASS matches. I shoot there as a guest at their IDPA matches occasionally, and there are some truly nice people to meet as a bonus. I live in Cleveland, but that's where I'd join if I lived in that area.
