Outrageous school assignment - please help this child

Assuming the student did not choose this topic I'm going to say I really hate teachers and "educators" like them.

I had a 6th grade english theacher that was Jewish and also sexist. Everyday we were bombarded with extreme pro Israel and sexist bullcrap. I was given a detention for reading a book in class after I finished my work that day. It was a book about WWII German weapons/vehicles that I got at the school library!

The breaking point with me was an assignment to write a persuasive letter to the Mars/Twix company complaining about a TV commercial that portrayed 2 teenage girls getting poor grades in school. She said it was sexist and we all needed to write letters and tell them why, for a grade. These letters were going to be sent to Mars/Twix so I refused.

I told her I would write a letter of my own opinion that was persuasive and on a topic I agreed with but my morality was not worth an "A". She simply said I had to do the same work as everyone else and if I didn't agree with it it was "no big deal, just do it and get it out of the way". I took it up the chain to the principal and district officials and they all blew me off and parrotted what she had said.

Long story short I wrote a letter to Mars/Twix saying they should not cave into demands to take the commercial off the air, informed them of my teachers scheme and told them I though it was a funny add. I mailed it myself and got some free candy bars in about a week :) The copy I turned into my teacher came back with an "F".

Had I known then what I know today I would have contacted the ACLU and sued the school district. Thankfully my Mom and Dad raised me to stand up for what is right so they were ok with the "F" after I explained it. My opinion is not for sale, even if it means my grades. This occured in 1998 by the way.

How did children ever learn to write without the internet? It's bad enough we spoodfeed them information here, but actively going to other sites?

Come on, guys, kids have a hard enough time learning to write and think critically without our help. Doing some kid's homework is definitely not what The High Road is about.

Between that and rants about teachers, this thread really doesn't belong in on THR.
