Over/Under Combination Guns

Anybody have any idea who may be making or importing to the US any reasonably priced over/under combination guns? Savage 24's are no longer in production. The Baikal's that have been imported by EEA, USSG, and Remington are bringing horrible high prices.

What are the options if any??

Actually looking for a 12 or 20 gauge over anything centerfire,..preferably .308. Anyone heard of anybody offering to make or import? Seem's like somebody would step up to fill that niche in the market?

I have a couple of the Baikal's and like them,...in both .22LR and .22 WMR over 410. Would like to add to them if they were available at any reasonable price.
 
For giggles and grins mostly. The .22's over 410 my wife and I use for small game and plinking. But I'd like a centerfire/12 or 20 gauge version for those rare times during our white tail deer season when it overlaps partridge, bunnies and other nefarious and tasty small game targets of opportunity. Maybe turkey. No other particular reason,... other than I can. Why do you ask?
 
I'm Austrian by descent, and the Austrians make lots of guns like these. I've always wondered what they'd be good for, apart from being interesting guns. There's a part of me that would like to have one for chukar and deer, but I don't think a good deer gun would be a good chukar gun.

The European Drillings often have elaborate sights that disappear into the rib when you switch the gun to "shotgun" mode.
 
Spent some time in Germany and Italy,...about six years in fact. Saw many beautiful drillings while there,..could've and should've bought some then,..but a soldiers pay didn't match the numbers being asked for those drillings then,....or now for that matter. I looked at one once and thought the price tag was the serial number!!!!!

I had a Savage 24 in .22LR/410 when I was a kid,..it went the way of the wind. When I found the Baikal's I bought the first one on a lark. Liked it,..and like I said,..the bride claimed it,..so I bought another while they could still be found. Sure would like to find a centerfire version, ....but unless you want to part with a lot more than they are worth,...you can't find them, ...as the sources are drying up fast for them.

A combination gun won't do either the best,..but they will get it done fairly well.

I just find it interesting that Baikal hasn't tagged on with another importer, or that somebody hasn't stepped up to make them here in the states. I realize there's not a huge market for them,..but there IS a market.

Oh well,...guess I'll have to keep shooting my lunch with a revolver when I am carrying my deer rifle. :)

I have an older one that was a CZ import and I believe it was a 484 mod 4 but I could be wrong. It wasn't as expensive as the current model. It came in the same caliber choices, same single set trigger for the rifle barrel, etc. etc. Mine is 12 ga. over 30-06. I carry it on a Honda trail 90 during overlapping seasons on Grouse, Quail, deer, bear, etc. I keep it in a boat, hunting along the shore line for the same reason.
 
I have read that a combo gun with a .30-06 over a 12ga was very popular with Alaskan bush pilots. Also, it would seem to be an ideal gun for back packers and people spending extended time in remote areas with big bears.
 
I have used my Savage .22/410 for small game for fifty years. Got it when I was ten. It just works good for small game...plinking...and its great for diggs on your cousin 'cause you have the "option" and he doesn't. :D

I used to have a Valmet model 9-- something. It was an over/under 12ga. but I've heard of the Savage .22/410.

Theres also the Judge revolver, .45/410ga in any combination of 5 shots in a cylinder.

I am aware of the Valmet/Finn Classic's,..and BRNO's that CZ is now marketing. All look great and I am certain they are well made guns. Have actually handled a couple of them over the years. Considerably more than I'd care to pay though. I could,..but the bride would have my hide if I did.

I already have the two Baikal's in .22LR & .22 WMR over .410.

A used Savage,....or another Baikal (branded by any other name)...is what I am looking for. Eventually,..I suspect I'll find one. And when I do,..it'll follow me home.

The Judge revolver isn't even in the same league here,..I am talking over/under shotgun/rifle combo's,...but thanx for that input.
 
I love my Savage 24 S-E in 22lr/.410. I say just keep checking in pawn shops and maybe Gunbroker. You should be able to turn up a decent one for less than $500.
 
I like 24s, too. Don't have one in a centerfire cartridge, though I hope to find a nice one in .222 over 20.
 
I like the Savage o/u's, very much. My first firearm, was a Savage 22/410, which I still use to this day, almost 40 years later...

I killed my first elk, and my first mulie with a savage 24 308/12g. This gun was stolen from my brothers house in Colo, in 1984. I have been told that Savage didn't make this gun, that is was made by Valmet, but I remember clear as day, it had Savage corp. stamped on the barrel, I had never heard of Valmet, at the time.....Wish I had it back, or could find another.....
 
I have an new old stock BRNO 802 on the way to me now in 12ga over 30-06. Will let you guys know how it shoots will make a nice deer/coyote or bear country gun.
 
The Valmet 412/Tikka 512 are it. Multiple calibers in the over under 12/12, 20/20, 12/06, 20/308, 06/06, 308/308. 243/243, 7/7, 9.3x74/9.3x74 .... Chokes, trap variants ..

And best of all, as the barrels are independant, adjustable for windage/elevatiom/regulation for point of aim. Yes I have most of the above, and two frames.

Go make MAJOR nice to the bride/frau and then get one. You won't regret it.

Good point.

I seem to recall reading that these guns were popular in jurisdictions in which the number of firearms that one could lawfully own was severely limited, leading to the need for compromise.

I've heard the same thing about rifles with interchangeable barrels.

Savage marketed that gun. It was made by Valmet. It's not the same gun as a 24, although it's certainly understandable how one might get that impression.
