P-14 Enfield?

One of our club members turned up with a P-14 Enfield at the military rifle match on Sunday.

The marking on the receiver is "ERA".

Could one of THR's milsurp folks tell us if this is an Eddystone production rifle, or was it produced in Britain?

ERA is indeed Eddystone. Winchester also made the P14/P17.

Britain never produced the Enfield or manufactured a variant of it, even though they contracted and issued it.

The dealer he got it from didn't know about Britain never producing the
P-14.

The Eddystone plant was a Remington operation, and "ERA" stands for "Eddystone Remington Arms". The Remington (Ilion) made P-14s are marked "RE" in an oval.

I was puzzling over the acronym "E.R.A."

The owner of the P-14 will be pleased to have the information.

There yet remains a wide array of surplus military rifles here in Australia (although a large proportion of the 68,727 handguns destroyed in the 'buyback' were military and pocket pistols) and the military rifle match is a popular event at shooting clubs in Australia.

It's a good chance to see a lot of historic hardware in action.
