Is it ok to shoot +P ammo with my Taurus PT145? I was thinking about the black hills ammo fro defense.

Pull out your manual and it should tell you if it is acceptable. One thing you might want to consider.....+P in all steel guns can accellerate wear, so I would think that in a polymer framed gun like our Taurus', the excessive wear would show up quicker and shorten the life of the gun.
Personally I prefer stuffing mine with a quality 230gr. JHP like Federal HydraShoks....and it doesnt hurt that my PT-145 really likes this round for accuracy and reliability.

I recommend against using +P in the PT145. It's just abusive and you're not going to gain much if any velocity, you will get a much bigger muzzle flash and more recoil though.

If I remember, my PT145 manual made some statement that ammo exceeding SAMMI specs will accelerate wear on the gun, then said something about being less safe to shoot. Boilerplate telling you not to overuse hotter ammo. I range shoot regular pressure ammo, like Wolf. Then after making sure it functions in the gun, I then carry something hotter. I like Double Taps (particularly the 185gr) because they are technically not +P, but give the higher velocities. I like the hot rounds in the .45 but don't want to tempt fate with alot of +P use. Even the Double Taps I don't plan to shoot except occasionally.

The instruction manual says that +P or +P+ ammo (being loaded to higher pressures) can be 'considered' dangerous when used in any of the PT series. You might try a few rounds, but you will probably find that recoil and muzzle flash will be much higher than standard loads.
My PT145 has no problems with 230gr ball or Remington Golden Saber 230gr or the 185gr equals. I have tried Federal 230gr Hydra-Shok and out of two boxes, I got three failures to feed.
Right now I have mine loaded with the Remington GS 185gr JHP's. A bit less recoil than the 230 and a bit more velocity. From what I have read, the GS round has better expansion characteristics than the Hydra-Shok in equal bullet weights.
