I took my new P22 to the range today to do some function testing. I shot 100 rds. of Remington 525 Golden Bullet. The only problem I had was 5 failures to feed free slide lock. No other problems. Has anyone else had this problem? Will it go away as I break the gun in? Very impressed overall.

I'm not sure... are you trying to say ...feed from slide lock...?
If so, was it with both mags or only one?
I just bought one of these little pistols (slightly used) but haven't had any problems... and yours may correct itself with more use.

5 failures in 100 rounds? Not a very good percentage (20% failure rate). Please do clarify what you mean by

hmmm well let me say my problem with them and maybe it will clarify. the first 3 rounds out of the magazine and it would fire and the hammer would drop and/or it did not eject the last shell. the reason behind that, from what i have heard is either the Mainspring that controls hammer tension is too tight or supposidly the magazines are not designed right to feed properly. both problems have supposidly been fixed but i bought a p22 (the short version) just a few months back and it got to the point where it was just a pain to shoot so i sent it to walther (smith and wesson) to get it fixed, the worked on it a while and did not have the proper parts to fix it so they are sending me a new one. we will just have to see how the new one does.......should be in next week....but the one i had had a terriblly high taste and would only work off of CCi mini mags, it couldnt even feed stingers..........maybe they where TOO hot a load....

Ted, first thing (IMHO) is to switch ammo and see what happens. .22's can be very sensitive.

Ted, what's the part number as read off the magazine? The mags were revised a while back and there may be some units that are still in the supply chain with the old mags.
If I just mash down the slide lock, to release the slide and chamber a round, mine does that as well. If I pull slightly back on the slide, from slide lock, allowing the lock to fall, then release the slide, it chambers from slide lock every time.
Remember, it's a slide stop, or lock, not a slide release. Sling shot that thing!

ted bell- i got a p22- and fired it for the first time this week.mine does the same thing as yours with the flat based clip.the clip that i have with the flat base is the old style magazine. i found a number to get replacement mags ( exchange) . i have to call this also and get the one mag replaced as well. i'm guessing that the flat based clip is part #265 93 36 - and the rounded finger extension clip is part # 265 93 44-A. if you notice that there is a slight difference in the two- there is little slits on the rear top of the good feeding clip (265 93 44-A). here is the number for the magazine exchange 1-800-372-6454. i haven't called it yet but plan on it in the next few days - i'll let ya know how it turns out

My wife and I stopped having problems by loading only 9 rounds in the old mag. Worked fine after that.

oh yeah- i did have failure to feed only with the flat based clip the first time i loaded it and then the second time i tryed it i really smacked the back of the clip in my palm ( said to do it in the manual) and it worked flawlessly. but i still do not like the fact that the first time i shot outta that clip that it had FTF , so i'm gonna get it exchanged. hope this helps ya
My son's new P22 was doing the same thing, and would only sort of work with Remington Thunderbolt ammo and CCI Mini-Mag (his mags are also the A series).
Thankfully, after about 500 rounds the problem resolved and now it functions flawlessly. (Recommend Thunderbolt for inexpensive shooting).

i may try polishing the feed ramp on mine and see if that helps.
UPDATE
I shoot another 200 rounds yesterday. It looks like the first round of each mag is getting squeezed by the follower and that the force of the slide being released is insufficent to feed the round. I haven't had any other failures to feed otherwise. I'll try different ammo and see if that makes a difference.
BTW, other than that minor problem, I love this gun. The beauty is I've shot 300 rounds with it and it has only cost me about $5. Long live the .22lr

This is what my P22 has done before the new magazine( I posted this on TFL a while back) since I sent it to get repaired and they sent me the new magazine. I'll try it out tonight):
Day one
200 Federal rounds fired
38 FTF (many times the slide would return but with no round in the chamber)
35 FTE (mostly stove pipes but some were just stuck in the barrel)
1st two rounds in the magazines FTF and FTE EVERY TIME
Day two
100 Winchester rounds
4 FTF.
200 Federal rounds
20 FTF
5 failed to fire (light strike?)
100 CCI Stingers
4 FTF
200 Federal rounds
1 FTE(stove pipe)
3 FTF.
3 failed to fire
Day three
100 CCI Mags
12 FTF
4 failed to fire.

I had 4 FTE, 4 FTF with the slide closing on an empty chamber, the slide stop doesn't work, and the ejector spits out empties to the front, back, at my head, at my eye, to the side...you get the picture. Its a POS!
Shot 50 Rem target, 50 stingers, 50 CCI blazers. Had problems with them all.
They also drilled a larger hole on the side of the slide to catch the safety but after shooting 10 rounds, you see the safety crepping down to the on position.
Have to send it back again.
