I just got back from the range and must say I'm very disapointed in my Walther P22. I bought the gun mid-December and have put 500 rounds through it since. I can live with the fact that you must use Hi-Velocity ammo to keep it from jamming, but the fit and finish is not up to Walther standards. I have a PP and a PPK (and a SW99 .45) and those are my benchmark. The P22 shoots inconsistantly. The slide rocks side to side. The roll pin under the saftey level keeps migrating till the lever hits against it. It's done this twice.
Anyone else have any problems with one of these?:banghead:

Sorry to hear about your P22...

I had some problems with mine and had to send it back. The slide would not lock back after last round and the gun would jam all the time. Th safety would also "engage" on its own.

Called S&W and they issued a call tag for me to attach to my package. I then called UPS and they picked it up. 4 days later, I had my P22 back.

Gun seems better now...One mistake I think I was making is using Stingers. I have since switched to Mini-Mags and have not had any problems. S&W also gave me a full length guide rod to replace the plastic one.

The gun is now very accurate and fun to shoot.

If I were you, I'd send it back and let them fix it to your standards.

I got mine last Fall and have not had any type of problem with it...shoots great and is very accurate....What do you think of the SW99 45acp....I have a P99 in 40auto and love it....but I want a .45

It is a beautifull gun but--
I tink S&W should have stick with the 422 // 622 // 2214 // 2213 series--
Even though I know I'm in the minority here--:p

I have been doing some preliminary research on the P22 w/ the plan of buying one in the next few months. However, w/ stories like this one, I have postponed the plan & will do mre research to see if it's still on my list.

I bought a P22, sometime before christmas and the first 100 (of mini mags) where fine. then i tried some cheap ammo and it jammed everytime. i figured , ok ill just use higher velocity stuff, so i tried stingers, they didnt work. then i went back to mini mags and they didnt work, i took the gun all apart and noticed ALOT of wear areas......i sent the gun to S&W and apparently the problem, they told me, lied in the magazines, (yeh right) so they tried to fix it but couldnt. so they told me they where going to send me a brand new one, unfortuantlly they had to wait for them to restock, they did, and sent me one a little over a week ago. i have since run about 100 rounds thru it of mini mags and it functioned fine. odd thing: with the slide locked open, you insert a magazine, and drop the slide and it STOPS while trying to feed the next round. personally i think the P22 have the most illogicallly made feed ramps of any gun i have seen. they are actually "stepped" which makes any type of round just about get stuck in the ramp. after a few magazine fulls they started feeding ok and i had none at all jam.............well see after i put a few hundred more thru it

Patriot, Thanks for the info. I think I'll call S&W tomorrow. I'll let everyone know what transpires.

Karate, I like the SW99 .45 a lot. Shot it today.

Just finished shooting my P22 in the backyard....I love the little guy. Not a single problem so far, I've used nothing but Remington Golden bullets without a single hicup.

I just got off the phone with customer service and they are sending a call tag for the gun. I'll let ya know what happens.

Good to hear Tweek...good luck!

Tropical Z...why is it a problem if you need to use Mini-Mags?? It's what S&W recommends??

last week at the range my p22 with a 5 inch barrel was only giving light strikes. i tried different ammo, and it would not fire, not even once.
i think i need to clean it completely and try again. the time before at the range it worked fine.

I've fed my P22 a steady diet of Remington Golden Bullets without a problem as well. Every gun model has its lemons. Just keep in mind that the ones with problems are usually the ones that are most vocal about it.

Patriot...

What a strange thing! I've always liked Stingers. However the only time my P22 has had any type of malfunction happened with Stingers. No big deal, just a few FTF's. (I cocked the hammer and the Stingers fired on the second strike.) My P22 likes the truncated bullets like Yellow Jackets and Mini-Mags. No failures with those! You can just sort of "feel" it when a pistol has a preference for a certain type of ammunition. Plus, I get a neat "star-burst" flash at the muzzle with truncated bullets. Nice!

Don't get me wrong, I like the gun, just disapointed. I posted to find out if I fall in that Lemon catagory or if there is a pattern of problems. Trust me as a manufacturers rep of automotive parts I know if man can make it, man can screw it up!
