I have an opportunity to buy a Sig P225 (not one of the P6 police trade-ins) with a set of Trijicon night sights and 2 magazines. Gun dates to 1987. Seems in very good shape, though there's some wear on the sharp edges of the slide and some holster wear. I've field stripped it and the rails and interior look good. Asking price is $475. Is this a good price?

The P225 were specifically made to be used as a police pistol. You probably have a model that was excess and not used/shipped to the police. The 475 seems a bit high, I would pay no more than 400. How is the finish?

With the addition of a new set of Meprolites, I now have $427 in my brand new German police P6. ($359, + $20 shipping + $68 for new Meps.)

Same gun with different writing on the slide near as I can tell.

I sure wouldn't trade it even for a used P225.

BTW: Depending on when the Trijicons were installed on a 1987 gun, they could be nearing the end of thier useful life.
They only last about 12 years before the Tritium starts getting mighty dim.

P225 ≠ P6 The P6 was the German Police version, while the P225 was commercially available in the US. If it's a P225 (doesn't have the little curly Q hammer or importation marks) $475 isn't that bad. I've seen them from $450-700+ depending on condition. If it's a P6, it's too high in my opinion. They're available as low as $299, and could be completely refinished for less than the $475 you'd pay for a worn one.

You can get a P6 from Military Gun Supply for $300. CDNN has some for sale also. I'm having a hard time holding onto my savings for a Glock19 instead of ordering one.

That reminds me that there’s a used P225 on sale at a shop in Pasadena. At $450 it may be a bargain. These are great pistols.

Then again, there are a couple things I’m watching on GunBroker.…

$475.00 is an average price for the gun as you describe it.
The regular production P225's aren't as plentifull as most of the other Sig models. Most people that have them tend to hold on to them.
I've got two of them.
One is a Tysons Corner "JE" code (1984) in very good to excellent condition that I got for a great price ($350.00 OTD) at a gun show.
The other is a "AC" code (2002) that I bought a few months ago for $505.00 OTD. It is in excellent condition and came with the box, papers, and two mags.
