So I workout with a young lady that is 5'4 and 115. She has a P229 and has done all her classes with it. I discussed going to a slimmer carry but she has obviously sunk some dollars into the SIG. She wants to go OWB and just purchased what I believe is a good belt. So what do you look for in a holster with such pistol "bulk" that will stay high and tight to the body and concealed?

The P229 can be tucked in close and disappear with the right holster. She will either need to position that holster closer to 6:00 or to 12:00 given that she's very thin.

I'm impressed with her pistol choice. Most gun goblins can't say anything but "revolver" or "glock" to a lady, and that's usually what gets sold.

I'm not a woman, but I'd think she would not need to carry at 6:00 or 12:00 in order to conceal. With typically wider hips, placing the pistol behind the point of the hip, at 3:30 to 4:00, as most recommend should probably work well.

Mitch Rosen has the "Nancy Special" specifically designed for women. They have other models that may also work.

The Cornered Cat may have some ideas for her. There are a couple of sections concerning holsters.

IWB = Inside the Waistband

SOB = Small of the Back (usually around 6:00)

Appendix = forward of your hip, between hip and fly (1:00 - 2:00 typically)

Clock positions -

12:00 - at your naval/fly

6:00 - center of your back

3:00 - widest point on right hip

9:00 - widest point on left hip

I comfortably carry a Sig 228 in a Galco FLETCH leather OWB holster. The COP model is very similar but less expensive.
