Got my P3AT, with an extra mag, as a very unsuprising Christmas present.
She got her bracelet, also no suprise, since she picked it out, and so, for now, all's well with the world.

As far as the AT goes, it's got 100 Blazers through it, half hollow point, half FMJ. No FTF at all, a real suprise, but at least four FTE, normally on round 6 of the 7 available. Seems split between the two mags, so I doubt a mag problem at this point.

It does appear that the slide stop's backing out between mags, causing increased friction, ect. Then too, I think very bad things about blazer ammo, except that it's snowing up here, and I'd not recover the brass 'till spring, and then only if it wasn't an embedded part of the (dirt) driveway!

Ugly it may be, but it does seem to work, and I like the weapon for either backup, which I've not done to date, or when you can't carry anything else.
So, if anybody's had the same problems, a word from the wise would be appreciated.

As final comments;

While you'll have no doubt you've fired a round, the recoil isn't
even close to the old Sigma, and even the better half can handle
firing it, although she's not likely to be able to load it.

Mine seems to shoot low, by a lot, working on "Coke" cans at 15
feet. And that would seem to be an owner problem...

I have a P3AT.
I have found nothing wrong with it.
The P3AT has no slide stop, so I assume you are talking about the take down pin. This is being discussed over at http://www.ktog.org/vbulletin/ .
As for it shooting low, the sights are the "dot the 'I' " type The front sight dot is placed over the rear. It takes a little getting used to!! ;) Once you get it down, the P3AT is a quite accurate little pistol!!
I have found that the only down side to it is the recoil and the force it takes to rack the slide, but these get better after you put rounds through the gun!! :D

I carry mine as a primary for low expected danger situations like going to the store during the day etc.

The P-3AT is brutal on brass....

I had a couple of FTE's with my late ser #H223xx with WinClean ammo. The extractor practically shreds the rim of the cartridge on ejection. I don't know if this is a characteristic of this model or just mine.

What you're probably experiencing is the takedown pin working its way out on the left side of the gun. I think Kel-Tec has a fix in the works.

As usual, with a very small, thin, and lightweight handgun stoking a larger caliber (.380 auto) the gun often takes a bit of tweaking and very careful ammo selection.

Whoops: missed the nomenclature, and take down pin it is. Too many autos on hand, I guess...

FWIW, I think it's a great weapon, and plan to have it on line as soon as I get home for an extended period: at the moment I'm 900 miles away, in Ohio, playing consultant...

denfoote: Thanks for the sight info, it'll save me some time and ammo.
Since my eyes work funny, I usually have to allign the sights
in some other place...

I don't think that the recoil is objectionable, but then, I shot out my .44 Charter: mostly a matter of how the grips fit, I think, and these work fine for me.

Anyway, I like it, and I suspect that the backout of the take down pin occurs after a couple of mags have gone through the weapon. But, that's after a couple of hours of plane ride, and I need to actually field test the theory before I'm sure. If it is true, though, I see no reason to down it as a daily carry.

Thanks for the comments.

About 6 weeks ago, I bought a P-11 on a whim. It was used.
I had a FTF every 3 rounds. They tipped down rather than up.

I found a user group type web site on the P-11 and printed out the "gun smithing" instructions. After a thorough cleaning, lubricating, sanding and polishing here and there, I tested it at ChristMas. It fed 20 rounds without problem. I still have to check it with the other magazine I used before, but am sure that it is all fixed.

Moral of the story is to clean, polish and lube before getting angry at a gun.

I also got a Walther P-22 which had one FTF in it's 5 test shots. On disassembly I found it FULL of sandy dirt. A thorough cleaning / lube and we shot at least 60 rounds with no problems.

I did have some troubles in fully seating rounds in my Ruger mark-II. Well guess what, I think my chamber is dirty.

Nearly every gun I've looked at that someone just inherited or whatever has been put away dirty... I've yet to clean up from my Christmas shooting as well, even though everyone thinks I'm a clean nut.

Thanks, yzguy, looks like good info.

While I can't play with it now, when I next arrive home, I'll check that spring. The extractor seems fine, since while the brass extracts, it's held just over the mag, locking the slide at the same position.

Hence the take down pin backing out as the suspected problem.

Guess I'll just have to shoot it some more to make sure!

Just picked up a Kel Tec P3AT today... have not fired it yet but will later on today.
