Going with ammo prices, I need a 9mm. I'm torn between the Walther P99 and the XD subcompact. I have an XD in .45, and love it dearly. The Walther is just sexy.

From what I've read, the capacity is the same, as is the price. Any factors to sway me to one side?

Id go for the XD subcompact, especially for the money and reliability.I,personally wasnt to impressed with the Walther P99,but thats just one mans opinion.

You need to try out the P99 before purchase. The first gen was supposedly the best trigger of them all. Then they released the QA and AS models. Some people liked one and not the other, etc. All of the P99's are great quality and function well. Really, the trigger is the only real difference, aside from some cosmetics.

i always choose the xd over handguns but maybe that is kust me but however you do have an xd already and keeping the manual of arms alike would be best and essiest with the xd. i say get the xd

I'm a Walther fan (Own a P99C QA and a PPS, and have owned a P99 QA) and have never owned an XD, so I'm bias that way, but I'd have to say pragmatically that if you have the opportunity to, take both to a range first (or find someone nearby to go shoot with who has one who'll let you squeeze off a couple rounds) and try them.

Based on the 'feel' of the two guns and my relative experiences with P99's (a subjective thing admittedly) I'd go with a Walther P99 any day.

One plus for XD's though is, I bet they're easier to get accessories, holsters etc for. Try finding a mag extension for a P99 or P99C for example (only place I've seen them available involved paying VAT and international shipping, for a $20 part... no thanks passed on that). In fact I have an XD9 IWB holster for my P99C :-/ . XDs are also cheaper, and I've heard nor read absolutely nothing bad about them.

Vote for the XD, but mostly because you already have the XD45 and seem to like it. Similar platforms, etc. Also, spare mags and other parts are a lot cheaper for the XD.

P99. Easy to dissasemble and clean (4 pieces) and reliable. I've shot about 2000 rds. through my 40cal. with no misfires or jams. Can be used righty or lefty and is adjustable grip to fit your hand. You won't be dissapointed.

Walther P99 :D:D:D

the walther is thiner and probley a good gun but the mag release is in a weard place.
The XD is a good realiable gun with many safety features.
I carry my LCP because of the size

I'd say don't get another XD if you already have one. I guess I'm in the minority on this site, but if I'm buying a new gun, I want it to be a new gun. I don't want a copy of a gun I already have.

I own an XD9 for what its worth

Swift, ask any weapons instructor and they will advise you to stick to one platform. Different gun makers utilize different angles for grips and felt recoil baised upon many factors between one model to another in the same caliber.

My advise to the OP would be stick to what you know and like. I understand that you like the look of the P99 but there are a lot of unknowns facing you with a new platform.

you can't go wrong with either, but I give the edge to the P99. Also, it is more fun to have more variety...

I say P99, people who never handled one can't see that this is such a beautiful piece of engeneering, the Walther P99 is in my opinion one of the best pistols ever made, and certainly one of the sexyest.

The Walther P99 is a superb piece of craftsmanship; it is 100% reliable, it's as accurate as your hand allows, and it provides you with a variety of options -- from triggers to interchangable backstraps to better fit your hand to a compact version to ... well, you get the idea. There's nothing wrong with the XD. But the Walther is the real deal.

I have a full-sized AS model and a P99C; I take them to the range often and have never had so much as a hiccup. They are, flat-out, wonderful firearms.

I have a p99 and a p99c and my advice is...don't buy either. You can't make a good decision on buying a gun you haven't at least held and pulled the trigger on yet. Actual firing prefered but just from features...no.

I haven't fired the P99 but I have fired an XD and I certainly don't like it. It's slide is like a london bus and the ergos are that of a brick. The design is great though.
The P99 fits me very well. Shoot it and see how you like it, but don't buy an XD on rep alone.

You're comparing a duty size pistol with a sub-compact. How can that be fair? It's not like you are comparing the P99 with the service XD, or the Walther PPS with the compact XD. You like your XD45 so why not compliment it with the smaller subcompact XD? I don't know what makes a gun sexy. But I do know my personal Walther P99 and TacXD9 are fabulous, reliable, accurate firearms. You should know which is best for you by touching them. Both brands are quality firearms.
