Free at last in PA!
Since both my wife and myself have family and go back to visit frequently we were trying to get our out of state CCW licenses for our old county. Well we ended up being screwed on that since we live in MD and since they "offer" CCW PA wouldn't give us one. Something interesting that did come up though, when we used to live in PA I had my CCW. When my wife called the courthouse they told her that I wouldn't need an out of state license since my old one was still valid. Anyone know how this would work or even if it was allowed? I no longer have a PA drivers license so how could I use my PA CCW while living in MD?

I think what they mean is if your old PA CCW is still valid you may use it while travelling in PA until it expires. At least that's how it reads to me.

Yeah Arc Angel I know but instead of spending $300 for my wife and I to get FL out-of-state licenses I'd like to only have to spend $150 for my wife.

What county in PA? I seem to recall that there's one county near the middle that will issue out of state resident permits without much hassle. (and When I asked several years ago, Alleghenny said they didn't do it at all)

There's also New Hampshire.
(scroll down a little)

Darn - they have the same restriction that you must have a permit through your home state.

Yeah... I see what you mean about the PA permit... need the home-state one first. :-(

Looks like it's a trip to FL for you & the Missus.
:-(

The Illinois Advantage

I had no trouble getting a Pennsylvania permit, thanks to Illinois being a no-way, no-how state. I guess that would be a real pain living in a state that theoreticaly issues CCW but in reality they are next to impossible to get. Jim.

Amish: Indiana County, Wife and I both grew up there so that's the first place we went. The big question from all of this is a PA CCW license that's good until Nov 2005 still valid without a PA driver's license or PA residence?

Instead of asking each other back and forth and speculating........since nobody seems to have a straight answer.

Call a PA state rep or the PA state attorney general's office and TRY to get an answer from them. Now keep in mind you'll be talking to government employees so, good luck. But it's better than asking some guy on THR who lives in another state that may not even issue permits.

Here's some contact info:

Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General

15th Floor Strawberry Square
Harrisburg, PA 17120
Phone: 717-772-0907
Fax: 717-772-4526

Also........here's a website that features all the PA County Sheriff's Offices that have contact info. Get hold of one of them.......as the County Sheriff's are the guys who issue permits, they oughta be able to tell you the ins and outs. If not, which would be pretty incompetent, I would hope they could point you in the right direction.

We had already contacted the sheriffs office of the county we're originally from (IE: the courthouse I mentioned in my first post) and that's what caused this whole question in the first place. Guess I'll need to call PAs AG.
