I have a hogue slip on grip for my P-95. I like it, but the palm swell makes the grip too fat for my hand. Someone suggested I try the pachmayr slip on grip(no palm swell). So now Im curious about pachmayr, are they qulity grips and how do they compare to the Hogue?.

Pachmayr makes several models. I have three of them, on different revolvers. I like all. The one closest to the Hogue is their Gripper. I prefer the Presentation, but the Gripper goes on my GP-100, and works well.

I prefer any of the Pachmayrs to the Hogues.

I like Pachmayr grips but if I were in the market for a set of the slip on types, I'd go w/ the Hogues ;)

They are both good. It is a matter of preference. I use Pachmeyer on my revolvers and my autos are split. No matter what I try, I can not find anything other than Hogue that feels good on my Sig 220

Back in the day (1980's) Pachmayr brand rubber handgun grips were the only quality rubber grips that I ever saw at gun stores. But as soon as I got my hands on the Hogue brand rubber grips, IMO, the Hogue's were a real improvement.

I always found the Pachmayr's just slightly too slippery, even though they were rubber. Just a little too hard for my liking.

I have purchased Hogue's for just about every handgun that I have owned since I found the brand in the 1990's.

Did you know that Hogue also makes toilet seats!? No kidding. Check this link:

I bought some Pachmayrs back in the 80's and they were better than the factory grips. When Hogue started producing grips in quantities, I replaced the Pachmayrs with Hogues. For me, the Hogues fit better and are significantly lighter.

He is specifically asking about the grip sleeves I think, either company in general makes quality grips, and it is nice to have a choice as compared to back in the day.

If I recall, the Pachy's are a bit harder than the Hogue's, and I do think they are thinner, they basically just provide a tight cover over the grips, whereas the Hogue's are soft and bulgy and have finger grooves. I think the Pachy's are a bit more slippery as a result, but are still an improvement on many pistols.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to go to a good sized shop and take a look at both.

I too use a Hogue grip sleeve on my Beretta Px4 40cal, and not being familiar with pachmayr grips, or how much they are, but as you know, the Hogues run about 12 bucks, so IMO, if the price is close, won't empty your bank account, lol, then buy one for your gun and take the Hogue off.

I know this can be done, as I added a large backstrap that comes with the Beretta Px4, and it worked well, except in 2 areas, cold, and sweet. The gun becomes too slippery IMO, so I got a Hogue grip sleeve. But, thinking that it would increase the grip hold, I put the medium backstrap back on and then put the Hogue on.

Well, after 250 rounds, I decided to take the Hogue off, take off the medium backstrap, and put the large/long backstrap back on, then put the Hogue grip back on, again.

Works fine, the second time around, so you should be able to do the same thing for a small investment to find which of the 2, is/works, best for you.

Get a piece of bicycle inner tube, cut to fit, slip it on. Tacky feel, no palm swell, barely changes the size of the grip. You get about 20 per $3.00 inner tube from Wal-Mart.

Pachys vs Hogue

Just my 2 cents:

Yes the Pachmayrs are a bit harder than the Hogues, but being so, they are a bit less ah...sticky. Clothes worn over them seem to slide a little better, where the softer rubber of the Hogues seem to catch and bunch. So for CCW piece I tend to go with Pachmayr. (Poor mans checkered frontstrap!)

Cheers, TF
