Painted ammo cans

done. :)

Thanks for all the help PAShooter. I pretty much copied your idea. I found the business card holders at Office Depot which are self-adhesive and put them on each can.

Each can is painted with the paint I referenced above from Aervoe Industries. For the lettering I used a Rustoleum gloss spray paint in yellow.

I have 4 .40SW cans done, 4 5.56mm cans done, 1 .38 Special can done, and 5 .22lr cans done.

No pics unfortunately as I no longer have a digital camera. :(

No thanks necessary... just sharing what I did. :)

I'm anal... I know it, but it was something to do on those cold winter nights when there were no other "gun related" activities available. Glad your plan worked out to your satisfaction.

yeah. Around here it's just been raining all the time, so this gave me something to do in the garage. :)

It looks cool and is super organized now. I think with my stash of ammo cans and guns, I need to name the gun storage room "Ft. Something"

PAshooter, very nice. You say those are "Forest Green"... they look gray to me. Trick of the light? I like the (apparent) color.

Anyone have an idea of how many spray cans it would take to paint 18 .30 cal cans?

I've never had a problem finding "clean" surplus ammo cans, both at shows and at various online dealers. I only painted my cans to give them a uniform color and cover up the original stenciling so I could apply my own.

If you're just going for practical labels and don't care about the look of the stencils, I would recommend a label maker
the problem with that is you have to be in good light and be less than 3 feet away in order to see what the label says. if your ammo cans are in an out of the way place, with poor lighting, you will have a difficult time seeing what the label says. also, i have had many of those little labels fall off, leaving me to guess what is inside.

I'm assuming that's just the "rainy day" supply, not what actually gets sent downrange on Sunday afternoon.

Use a large type font on the labelmaker. Put the labels on little cards, and use the stick-on cardholders that PA shooter mentioned. Should be able to see them just fine.

I'd just like to know how he rassles full .50 cal. ammo cans around. Full .30 cal. cans are enough for me.

If you're talking about my... stash... yes and no. Yellow dot cans are range ammo. This gets cycled regularly - though not as regularly as I'd like - and is the range ammo. That's why some of the "dotted" cans are mixed... the odds and ends go in there.

"Non-dotted" cans are long term storage, and packed with dessicant bags.
