So, apparently PSA is going to crank out their own "modular" pump-action shotgun.
I give them props for entering a contested market and I also give them credit for trying to make something that is more "consumer minded" in terms of ability to modify. But personally, I'm going to pass on this.
It is pretty much a Mossberg 500/590 series clone that uses Remington 870 furniture. The barrel/mag-tube clamp is fitted for a GLOCK front sight. The barrel has no taper and the magazine tube is easily removable. The idea is that the buyer can set up either a SBS, a traditional shotgun, etc. and just need to use the one barrel/mag-tube clamp, no matter the barrel length and mag-tube length.
Design wise, that's pretty nice for the consumer. Personally, for pump shotguns, I have a literal pile of Remington 870 Wingmasters with a smattering of Browning BPS (even the rare police/home-defense model), Benelli Novas, and even a Winchester 1300 Defender thrown in just to spice things up. With used quality Remington 870s floating around by the millions out there. It is a tough market to crack.
Now, PSA is stating that the Model 570 is going to be sold in a modular fashion, much like an AR-15 from 'em. So, you can buy the receiver by itself, get a barrel and mag-tube, and build your own Shockwave. Or you can go and do a 18" home-defense gun, etc. Again, I give them credit for it and their idea behind it is that you can buy what you want and not have parts laying around.
For me, I'm good with modern pump shotguns. What I want are more box-lock Browning BSS, Belgian made Auto-5s with suicide safeties. and a smattering of Great Depression era riot guns.
