I've shot both the LR-308 and the M1A. Both of them have very mild recoil for a .308; I think a normal adult could put 100 rounds through either one without fatigue.
There are many write-ups on the LR-308, please do a search. There are also reviews at several sites including Gunblast.com. It is a good solid rifle, one of the most economical .308 semi-auto platforms that will be reliable and offers a magazine with more than 4 or 5 rounds of capacity. (Yes, people will almost immediately chime in to say that a Saiga 308 or a PTR-91 is better; that's nice.) For the uses that 99% of us put rifles to, like hunting and target shooting, it is a great rifle with few drawbacks. I probably wouldn't pack one for a long trip through Afghanistan, but I assume that's not your intent.
