Has anyone here cut there teeth on loading paper patched bullets w smokeless? I read an article on the subject years ago, seemed like a pretty cool thing to do. Supposedly, you can load cast bullets to jacketed bullet velocities. I would love to see how that worked out. Thanks!

I tried it @ 30 years ago but never really did very well with it, probably due to lack of knowledge, skill and enough effort.

It seems like powder coating has somewhat reduced the relevance of paper patching nowadays.

I know it's much easier to get good results with paint vs patching, at least for me.

I've done it to help polish a rough bore. But like swampman said. It's easier to coat.
It did work well on maxi balls in a 58 muzzle loader.

My M70 458 Win Mag would not stay on a six foot by six foot target at 100 yards with commercial cast bullets. And what I have been wondering is, whether paper patching would help, and what sort of paper to use. From what I have read, a 458 has a long chamber throat to reduce pressures and that may be the reason cast bullets don't shoot well. Maybe a paper patch would take up that space.
