I recently came across an adapter for a Martini Henry that allows the use of a .45 long Colt cartridge in the Martini Henry breech. Unfortunately I did not win the auction. From the pics this adapter is machined to replicate the .577-450 MH cartridge case on the exterior, and machined on the interior to accept the .45 Colt cartridge. Upon ejection. the entire adapter and case cones out of the MH breech.
Unfortunately, I believe the .45 Colt bullet is of such a smaller diameter that it does not engage the MH rifling. I have read that bullets made from the Lee R.E.A.L. .464 bullet mold can help remedy the rifling issue.
Which brings a thought to mind. Is it possible to paper wrapped a common .45 long Colt bullet enough such that it can be loaded into a long Colt case and engage the MH rifling?
I realize, if I acquire a MH .577-450, I should just bite the bullet and get the proper mold , dies, Magtech brass cartidges. etc. to do it right. I am just wondering about the stopgap measure of using the adapter with semi properly sized paper wrapped bullets to engage the MH rifling in long Colt cartridges.
