7.45 user and praise of para ord customer service.
I purchased my first generation 7.45 LDA almost 6 years ago new, and was impressed with it from the the first time i shot it (put one big ragged hole in the 10-ring of a silhouette target at 30 ft). The only modification which i made to it was to install factory night sights which were dissapointing (barely visible) but more on that later.
i confess though that i converted to the dark side and went the way of the glock for a long time. I hadnt shot or carried my 7.45 in a long time; so about 2 months ago i went to the range and fell in love with it all over again. But thats where my story takes an interesting turn.
upon returning home i began to take apart the gun to clean it, i noticed two big problems as soon as i locked the slide back. first off the firing pin retaining plate fell right out. secondly, the firing pin was protruding about an eighth of an inch out of the firing pin hole on the slide. i was perplexed to say the least, since i am a gun enthusiast and tinkerer but in no means a qualified gun smith...
i took it to several local smiths and got the whole "that aint right" line from them (one of them in particular seemed to be afraid of the LDA action and wouldnt even strip it to take a look at it).. so i relented and shipped it to the manufacturer with a note explaining what happened and also a bried note about my not being super pleased with the brightness level of the factory night sights.
About 10 days later a package showed up on my door. when i opened it up i was surprised as to what i found. Not only had para repaired it, they gave me a new slide off the SSP (with the improved cocking serrations and the para PX extractor) but also a new barrel with loaded chamber witness port, a new bushing and a set of night sights that make my trijicons on my glock seem outright dim. And to top it all off THEY DID THIS ALL FOR NO CHARGE!!!!
Took it to the range, ran 200 rounds of ball through it with out one hiccup, and it was just as accurate as it was when new. I was impressed to say the least. Not only with the pistol but with para's excellent and prompt customer service, and i wouldnt be surprised if another one of their fine products found its way into my collection in the near future...
as to one of the previous comments about mag capacity, i exclusively use wilson combat 8 rd mags, with the extended floorplate. Ive never had a problem with feeding with them with both hardball and HP loads, and havent found the extra length of the mag to be a problem when carrying it concealed on my belt..
