I have a kind of internal debate going on in my head about whether or not I want to get the Para Ordnance LDA, or a Glock 21.

The gun will be a duty weapon. Neither gun needs to be concealed. Capacity doeasn't matter because I live in California.

In your various experiences, which has been more reliable?

I love the Para because it's an AWESOME trigger. Absolutely beautiful. Also, the classic 1911 styling really does appeal to me.

The Glock, I believe, cannot be beat for hands-down reliability. look at www.oregonshooter.com for their torture test. Slo, wide selection of holsters is great.

I currently own a Ruger p90. It's an awesome gun, but the bulk is kind of bothering me lately. Also, I have had a few reliability issues with it. Some may have been user created.

IN YOUR OPINION AND EXPERIENCE, which is a better bargain?

(I know that posting this is going to get a lot of responses like "It's your money, it's your choice. Buy the one you like." Well, obviously!)

First off, I'd have to say that this isn't a "fair" comparison, and they are two completly different type of handguns. A better comparison would be the Steyr M series, and the Glock (or even the Springfield XD and Glock)

But since that wasn't the question, I'd personally pick one of the LDA's each and every time, as I don't like Glocks, don't care for the feel of em' (or the look of them for that matter) and they just don't "fit" me right.
Can't say that the LDA would be a "better bargin" but for me it would be a "better deal" ;)

Glock

I'm not a huge glock fan, but I am less a fan of the LDA. I didn't like the feel, how it shot, or the trigger. Also, the trigger system is fragile. Unfortunatley I cannot recall where I put the link but a reputable gunsmith gave an in depth analysis of the fragility of the system.
Also, do a little searching on para and you'll find a lot of people unhappy with theirs (and some happy folks).
If it's a range gun, the Para is fine. If I have to bet my life on it. Give me the glock.

I am a big fan of Para-Ordnance and Glock and of all of them the Para 14.45 and the Glock 21 are my favorites. However, I still can't get behind the LDA system. It overly complicates the gun and its parts are proprietary and only available from Para. The only proprietary parts in a Single Actions Para P14.45 (pre "power extractor") is the frame, mags and mag catch: all other parts are readily available anywhere, as are the proprietary Glock parts (nearly all of which have aftermarket equivalents).

An LDA trigger may feel great in the gunstore, but try getting back off the trigger during rapid fire one-hand drills. I know that the big competitors can do it, but then, they actually shoot for a living. I can't. A traditional 1911 single-action trigger or a Glock "safe action" trigger is much easier for me to shoot accurately at speed.

Practical trigger ergonomics and parts availability would make my decision for me. Your mileage may vary.

HK USP .45 with an LEM trigger might also make a good choice. Try one and see what you think.

The LDA and LEM are supposed to feel similar. Also consider the HK is plastic and so is the Glock.

The capacity of the HK is 12+1 so you are not losing that much. What you are getting is a great gun with decent capacity and a lighter weight.

You can also lighten the LEM pull to get it down to 5.5 pounds like the Glock.

I'm a bit biased here as I had a G21 commit suicide in my hand while firing, so I'd opt for the Para...good luck with either...
