The safety on Para LDA

I'm trying to get a job for an armored car company, and if I want to carry my own gun it has to be DAO, including half charge guns such as the Glock, with no external safeties. I am interested in a 1911 that fits the description, and Para Ordnance makes the LDA. The Tac-Five is listed as DAO. I presume the no external safety rule is for readiness, and that brings up my other question. I've never had a 1911, but it is my understanding that the external safety can only be engaged when the gun is cocked. If the LDA is DAO, its not able to manually cock, why does it have the external safety and how is it used?

The LDA is not a DAO in that there is no second strike capability. The slide has to be cycled to "prime" the LDA trigger. The safety works like a standard 1911 safety such that if the trigger is "primed" then the safety can be engaged.

The safety on the LDA is in my mind somewhat superfluous and unnecessary. If you are trained with a normal SA 1911 to swipe the safety off as a motor skill then I suppose it serves a function. Otherwise I think it is an added safety that is redundant.

Second strike capability has nothing to do with determining if a pistol is double action. The LDA is pre-set double action only.

On my LDA the thumb safety can be put "on" EITHER if the gun is cocked and loaded or chamber empty/hammer down.
I carry mine fully loaded , live round in chamber and thumb safety off , most times. To fire , you draw the pistol and just pull the trigger as the thumb safety is in the off position { down} .

The only advantage - and this is debatable - of a manual safety on a DAO is that it can act as a hidden "kill switch" for weapon retention. In other words, if your gun is grabbed and taken away by an assailant intent on shooting you with it, an engaged manual safety may confuse him long enough for you to take other action.

Unless they will allow you to carry with the safety off, this requirement is probably going to sink the Para LDA.
