parkerized finish touch up?

When disassembling your new 870 express, the barrel is not a good place to grab after removing the magazine nut.

Is there any good way to touch up the nice scratch I put on my receiver?

ONLY way to fix that would be to actually reparkerize the scratch. You may be able to repark the scratch without taking the whole deal apart but it is more difficult to do so.

Cold blue will at least darken the scratch, but don't allow it to contact any more of the metal than absolutely necessary, since cold blue will leave a "blotch" in the parkerizing around the area.

Another "touch up" is to use a marker pen to cover the scratch.

Sorry, there just isn't any good method of repairing scratches in parkerizing.

Take the wood off it, spray it out with non-chlorinated brake cleaner, wipe it down with alcohol, and paint it with flat black paint. Camo paint, stove paint, whatever paint is good. It is FAR more rust resistant than the stock finish, can be touched up for life at less than $5 and holds up as well or better than the stock finish.

Parkerizing is one of the absolute best finishes to paint. It holds the paint well between the crystals of the oxide and will prevent paint from chipping. IF you are going to parkerize the scratch, the receiver should be stripped COMPLETELY and degreased. Then you do the same as if you were parkerizing a bare receiver with no finish. Like I said it is possible, just as time consuming to re-park just the scratch. It would still need to be stripped down, and somehow preheated and then heated parkerizing solution poured over it until it reacts with the bare metal in the scratch. It takes between 5 and 25 minutes to get the parkerizing solution to react with steel so that means a lot of pouring. Reparking the entire receiver MAY change the overall color a little bit, BUT would be the preferred method and the easiest, besides painting, to fix the problem.
