I am a pastor. I don't have my concealed carry permit, so don't carry in the pulpit. I have considered getting it, but I'm unsure if I would carry to church.

I would think the liability would be through the roof. I'm not sure what our insurance company would think.

I know that Christians differ on the subject, that is fine, I'll not argue with different opinions unless they want to privately discuss. I'm a deacon, and our church is filled with mostly pro gun people. As far as I know, we are just kind of unofficially "Don't ask, don't tell" about CCing in church. My preference is to CC so I am prepared. John Calvin said: "To be clear of the crime of murder, it is not enough to refrain from shedding man's blood. ... if you do not according to your means and opportunity study to defend his safety, by that inhumanity you violate the law." If you look at colonial America, men were openly armed in church.

I don't think the insurance company has any position on it either way, nor any way of knowing what random individuals might have on their person. I don't think we have a reason or desire to broach the subject openly as a church body unless forced to do so by a circumstance.

Folks, first, for the overwhelming majority of this thread y'all have done a great job of discussing the topic without getting into theological discussion, and answering the question at hand with very minimal mentions of religion. Thank you for doing so well in that regard.

However, I've just had to delete a few posts that focused mostly on theology, and barely touched the topic of carrying of firearms by religious leaders or elders. Please stay with the very narrow firearms focus of the question asked in the opening post because I'd really prefer not to have to close this for turning into a religious discussion.

If you feel compelled to discuss the theology of firearms carry or of self defense in general please do so via PM.

Thank you all for your understanding.
