I stop in a local pawn shop after my haircut. It's conveniently in the same plaza. They have a nice selection of new and used guns. I have not bought a gun there yet but I have bought some tools. Good service.
Top: My existing die set. Bottom: My pawn shop find.
I stopped in yesterday and what do I find on the shelf. A set of RCBS Group D dies for 30 Remington AR. Now I already had a set of dies for 30 Remington AR but they were the AR specific set with the small base sizing dies and bullet seater with taper crimp. This new set of dies gives me a standard full length sizing die and a bullet seater without the taper crimp.
Only $30 for the two die set and from a close inspection I don't believe they have ever been used.
I can now load 30 RAR on my 3 position press as I have the correct #30 RCBS shell holder. And two sets of dies to mix and match as desired.
But if I am feeling like volume at this point I think the only thing I lack to convert my Dillion 650 over to 30 RAR is a shell plate. My 450 Bushmaster shell plate will not work, even though 30 RAR is based on 284 Win and 450 Bushmaster for some silly reason Remington increased the rim diameter over the very common .473. 30 RAR and 41 Mag have the same rim diameter and 41 Mag body diameter is slightly larger the the extractor groove of 30 RAR so that should work.
I can use the shell feeder components for 450 Bushmaster to feed from the case feeder into the shell plate.
-Station 1: I will use which ever sizing die works best for my rifle.
-Station 2: I will use the 300 BO powder funnel.
-Station 3: I will use a standard 30 caliber powder check.
-Station 4: I will seat using one of the seating dies
-Station 5: I will use the taper crimp of the seating die with the seating stem removed (If I have a bullet with a cannelure to crimp into.)
Now I need to start looking for a good bullet to use and I could really use some more small rifle primers I am getting very low...
