Hey guys I need I little help with setting up myHornady
lnl ap for .40 cal sw
Here is my setup
Station 1 EGW U-Die
Station 2 CAPD w/ Powder thru expander
Station 3 powder cop (hornady)
Station 4 Hornady seating die. no microjust it is on order
Station 5 Hornady Taper Crimp

Problems
1. The egw was too short so I took of the lock nut and screwed it way down. Does this sound right? Is there a better solution??
2. The CAPD/expander is screwed all the way down and does not bell the case very much and the die is so low it hits the shell plate before the other dies have a chance to do what they need to do
3. Bullet is not seating far enough down in the case the die and bullet seater dial is screwed in as far as they will go. Also the CAPD is hitting the shell plate before the seater has gone all the down into the case.

It seems like most of the dies are too short ????

My LNL AP is older and does no have the powder thru feature, so I cannot help you there. I do know that there was a problem with “improper expanders”, so call the toll free number and discuss that with Hornady.

Make sure you disassemble and clean the powder measure with warm water and Dawn dish soap, to remove the shipping protective lube. Allow to dry and graphite the moving surfaces.

Since I have a variety of dies I converted to the LNL, many were “short”. A simple solution is to remove the lock ring from the die, drill and tap the bushing for a small hex head lock screw. Adjust to desired depth, then carefully remove the bushing/die and tighten the lock screw.

Good Shooting!!!!!!!

EGW dies are custom cut on Lee bodies. Older Lee dies are known to have short bodies (or at least threaded portions thereof), requiring lock rings on the bottom of the die plate even on Dillon presses. Since most sizing dies are small enough to pass through a LNL female bushing, you could try inserting the female bushing from the bottom of the die plate, and putting the bushing on the die upside down? You'd need to do this on all of your sizing dies to avoid having to remove and replace the female bushing for caliber changes.

Contact EGW, and see if they have any available using the newer extended-thread Lee bodies.
