I went the the gun show yesterday and did not find much, but on the way back I hit the pawn shops and gun stores.

I saw a 95% 1942 Woodsman for $299 in a pawn shop with original magazine. I did not even dicker them down.

That's a steal. Be sure to only use standard velocity ammo.
It's a steal all right, but you can use high velocity ammunition in any Woodsman made after 1932. If in doubt look at the back strap. There should be horizontal hatching, indicating a high velocity mainspring housing.

Thank you for the correction. I must have been thinking about my Hi Standard models. I'd still hate to beat that thing up with hi/hyper velocity ammo. I bet they never envisioned an ammo shortage on 22lr when that thing was made....

I'm jealous.

Wanna trade? I've got a watchdog. She's kind of old, deaf in both ears and blind in one eye, but if the intruder steps on her tail, she'll be all over him.

You need a good watchdog.

Sweet find! Just like a dream come true, for most of anyways. Congrats on the Colt Woodsman.

I wish I had pawn shops like that round here.

All the ones here are filled with overpriced junk.

Great gun I am 47 and I have only seen 3 of them in my lifetime. Great buy cause the last one I saw at a GS 25 years ago cost that much and was not as nice.

WOW... A local pawn shop has a few but unfortunately they know exactly what they have.
Congratulations on that deal.

sappyg: I think I know the shop you're talking about (Dewey's?). I've drooled over those two they've got many times. I too wish they were more stupider about what they've got :(. They wouldn't haggle the last time I asked, but that's been at least a year now.

One heck of a deal for sure!!

Here's mine!

1927 Woodsman 6 5/8" -> Paid $275.
1936 Sport 4 1/2" -> Paid $420.
1965 Targetsman 6" -> Paid $325.
1976 4 1/2" match Target. -> Paid $600.

Vern Humphrey is right. The backstrap extends up through the frame and serves as the bolt stop. If the rear has horizontal lines, it is made for high speed ammo. If it has a checkered oval area, it is for standard velocity only. Firing very much high speed ammo in a gun with the older type will eventually batter the softer bolt stop and it can crack, or worse, be impossible to remove from the frame and the gun can't be disassembled to fix it.

Very nice find at a great price. I hit every pawn shop I pass by during my workday, and never see deals like that.
