Just ordered a Foxtrot Mike FM-9 with 7" barrel.

Considering a 105gr hitek coated truncated cone bullet for a 9mm PCC load.

I have promo, wst, sport pistol, hp38, wsf, longshot for powder. I'm thinking the faster powders are better in the blowback action. WST, SP, WSF, promo and LS, I have plenty of, not so much hp38.

Is it safe to push a hitek bullet to 1400fps?

Any recommendation on powder or different bullet?. I do have some extreme 100gr plated that I can play with too, but would like to order a fairly large supply of something to feed this thing!

I was thinking the hitek would tolerate more fps than a plated?

Many questions...

Thanks,

Gary

'7 inch barrel' disqualifies me from any 'apple to apples' comparo, but in my 16" Ruger PCC, 4.8 Sport Pistol and 115 RMR Matchwinners are a great combo for 50 yd accuracy.
1400 fps from a 7 inch barrel,,, In my collection of firearms, probably the only thing I have that would be in that same range of velocity/barrel length is a 357 magnum/6 inch barrel.

I’ve been reading too much I think. The 100 -105 grain bullets could be faster but probably not that fast... especially in a 7” barrel.

Not sure the Xtremes would hold up at 1400, I seem to recall Xtreme says 1200 MAX for their plated bullets.
Higher vel = slower powder
Never pushed coated that hard but they should probably hold up ok.

Hoggdon show this with a 95 FMJ (of course a heavier lead bullet will be different)
95 GR. SIE FMJ Hodgdon Longshot .355" 1.020" 5.8 1192 25,800 PSI 6.8 1356 33,300 PSI (4" barrel)

For me I would be more concerned with accuracy than say 100 Fps unless it was for SD and I wouldn't be using either of those bullets fro SD.

Dudedog - Just target shooting for now. I have been reading some folks like the lighter bullets at faster speed for a flatter trajectory over 10-100 yards. It's a new toy and something to play with. I agree accuracy is the goal not interested in setting speed records.

If it turns out to be reliable, I would probably consider it for home defense with the appropriate bullet. I have some RMR MPR 124 stashed that would fit that bill but I would rather buy self defense ammo. Alas, good luck finding any right now.

Looking at hitek coated lead for now since RMR is so back logged.

Hmm,
if I was picking 2 to play with out of your list I would try Sport Pistol and WSF.
Don't know how those to are with lead 100s but two of my favorites for 9mm with 124s.
Odds are you don't want to run ladders on every powder you have for those bullets and there is no telling what your gun will like so I would say pick 2 and try them and see if you get something you like.
If not, try again. (not helping a lot I know;))

I did have good results with Promo back when I was shooting lead but that was with heavier bullets in 9mm.

I always prefer factory stuff for SD but I use MPRs for matches and they could do double duty in case of a Zombie attack.
Like those MPRs good stuff.
My match load is 4.4 -4.5gr of WSF MPR at 1.08.

I like Promo a lot with 95gr RMR FMJ in my hi-point PCC. If memory serves I was getting 1450 +- using around 4.6-5.0gr. (Must carefully work up in this range)
Promo seems to be a great powder for this application. @LiveLife has a PCC loading with Promo thread you should check out.
