RMR 124gr hardcore match plated flat nose bullets

I have more of the bullets on order and will get the Autocomp and Power Pistol results when I have a chance. (sorry I could not get good ones today).
I did load both 4.4 and 4.8 of Autocomp the 4.8 seemed bit better but hard to tell at 25 yards with no support. Will shoot some closer and minimize the big variable (me) soon.

Dudedog, thanks for taking the time to test a few loads for us. I have not tried the RMR bullets with Autocomp yet, but I have loaded some Xtreme 124gr CPHP's with a 1.090" COL and 5.4gr of Autocomp. The best grouping I had was 1.46" at 15 yards. The RMR bullet is a bit longer so I will probably lower the charge when I start my load workup with RMR and Autocomp.

BDS sorry no SDs,
The chrono does not generate an SD for me and because of the crazy day at the range I was unable to read each shot off the chrono to have the info needed to caculate it myself.
Getting blind in my old age and I couldn't read the numbers with it 8 feet away from me.
#s were for 9 rounds. (1 mag) for each OAL
(Note: 1 my ProDisk is usually throws 4.7 BE86 well, sometimes + or - .1 when measured on the Frankford DS750, might be less if I used the Gem20 to weigh the charges. Note: 2 Lee FCD was used loading the rounds, I happen to like using it others will say :barf:)

I think I will also load up some for the Autocomp (re) test with 4.8, 5 and maybe 5.2. It seems for me Autocomp is happier on the heavier side.
I didn't have as many of the bullets left as I thought so I just took a stab with 4.4 and 4.8 instead of doing more complete workup.

I was also able to pick up a lb of CFE psitol in town for a reasonable price ($23) so I will try to test it, some Titegroup and maybe a couple of others as well.

Now if I could just shoot like BDS or Walkalong or...... I could get meaningful info from the longer range.
(Need to practice at longer distances, and a little rusty after a 6+ week hiatus from shooting.)

As my new hobby project while restoring the ocean fishing boat with jetdrive, I have been designing my version of Ransom Rest and once I have a prototype built and properly tested, I will put you down to be the first ones to ship to (no, I won't be selling it - maybe put them up for PIF). ;)

This way I can finally conduct objective 25/50 yard accuracy testing for the "Advanced Reloading ..." thread. :D

Thank you very much for the data.

Looks like I could actually go a couple of tenths less powder and still hit 1050fps.

I hadn't thought about loading that long...thought I'd get speed settled before tweaking for accuracy

BDS,
I will be happy to sign up as a Beta tester for the rest. :D
I have lots of experience Beta testing Microsoft software!
(oppps I mean the release versions )

I have more of the 124 RMRs on the way and will have data with more powders in the future.
Wish I would have spent a little more for the chrono and got the one with more features but I picked up the Pro Chrono PAL on sale fairly cheap so I would say I am happy with it overall.
(figured I would by an inexpensive one to shoot first to get that part out of the way, but it's still alive)

I also ordered some RMRr 100gr RNFPs so will give them a try and post as well.

9mmepiphany,
when I get more I will load some up say at maybe 4.2 and 4.5 BE86 and get you some vel numbers from those.
Other than the test I have been using 1.10 OAL as I have couple different 9s to feed and I want to be able to use the ammo I load in any of them.
If you need 1050 for 125 PF that might give you an idea of how much wiggle room you have.

I forgot to note the temp in my other post but it was around 90 F when I tested.

Yup, darn Microsoft using customers as "beta" testers! :cuss: I am running two installations of Windows10 Evaluation versions now along with Windows 8/8.1, Chrome and Ubuntu/Linux. So far, I do like the Win 10 looking/feeling like the old WinXP Pro.

I have a good chance of getting a job change that will move my work location to the city where my sister/BIL live. If/when that happens, I will have full access to my retired BIL's workshop to build the prototype machine rest. I am designing two versions, one that is similar to Ransom Rest and another that is similar to now discontinued Caldwell model. I am currently working to simplify the designs so the parts will lock up consistently with the second version resetting automatically.

The machine rests will be instrumental in evaluating accuracy of pistol loads, especially at longer distances of 25/50 yards. I thought about using Just Right carbine with 9/40/45 barrel conversions and scope but I think using the actual pistols will be better.

I think I have enough materials to build several machine rests. Once the prototype is finalized and working well, I am planning to distribute them to several THR mods/members so we can perform multiple/simultaneous testing of same powder/bullet loads using different pistols.

Wish me luck and I could use some prayers too as my brain is not working as well as it used to. :D

I have a Caldwell. I have never taken it out of the box. I really should do that one of these days. I have had it about 15 years.

vaalpens,
bullets arrived today so I will try to do the Autocomp and Powerpistol test this weekend.
Were you looking midrange or high side for the loads?
If you have any specific charge in mind (assuming it is reasonable) I can test/chrono it.

Dudedog,

Thanks again for the offer.

For Power Pistol I just did a couple of loads using the RMR bullets. I started low since my COL was also lower, but the grouping was good, although a tad higher than POA. I'll appreciate it if you can test 5.2gr Power Pistol with a 1.065" COL.

I have not loaded any RMR with Autocomp yet, but I have went up to 5.4gr with Xtreme CPHP's at 1.091" COL. I would be happy if you just go with a midrange and COL you feel comfortable with.

OK that sounds reasonable 5.2 of PP will probably be midrange, little shorter OAL than I have been using but should be no problem.
I will do 4.9 and 5.2 at 1.065 for you, also 4.8, maybe 5 Autocomp.
Hodgdon shows 5.2 as the max Autocomp 125gr @ 1.09 so if 4.8 is OK @ 1.065 I may go a bit higher.
(insert chicken noises here......)
Will load some up after lunch to test tomorrow. :)

Dudedog, the way I came up with the 1.065" COL was because I was testing the Berry's 124gr HBFPTP at the same time as the RMR's. Berry's has a 1.060" suggested COL for it and based on the difference in nose lengths between the RMR and Berry's, I decided to go with 1.065". I know this goes against the accepted wisdom to find the working COL first, but for these bullets I decided to find a good load first and then tweak the COL if needed.

I am also looking into getting a chrono, so hopefully soon I will be able to post some velocity numbers to provide a more complete picture.

Thanks again for the help!

The 1.065 will be intersting. Longer will plunk in my guns but the shorter OAL gives the case more bullet to grip.

I for one won't say that longer is always better.

(And OK everybody resist any temptation to make clever comments on the above statement or Walkalong, 9mmepiphany and the other Mods will be mad at me for making them edit out 100s of "clever" replies) :D

I am also trying to tread lightly here, but I can't ignore my data. Based on the raw data I have been collecting and keeping in mind that I have done limited testing with the RMR's and Berry's, my top 4 grouping in 9mm so far has been:

#1 Ammoload brass, 1.150" COL, Xtreme 124gr CPRN
#2 FC brass, 1.060" COL, Berrys 24gr HBFPTP
#3 WCC brass, 1.150" COL, Xtreme 124gr CPRN
#4 WIN brass, 1.065" COL, RMR 124gr HMPFN

I should be able to improve with the RMR's and Berry's since I have only done limited testing in 9mm with them, but so far I don't see any reason to change the COL.

vaalpens, very interesting loads!
Could you share your powder and charge please?
Thank you!!

JD, not a problem sharing my loads. Please note I indicated these were groupings from my raw data and different loads could be my selected loads based on other factors I take into consideration.

Ammoload, 1.150", Xtreme 124gr CPRN, Bullseye 4.2gr
FC, 1.060", Berrys 124gr HBFPTP, Longshot 5.3gr
WCC, 1.150", Xtreme 124gr CPRN, AutoComp 5.3gr
WIN, 1.065", RMR 124gr HMPFN, PowerPistol 5.2gr

Got a bunch loaded up for testing.

Have these
4.7 BE86 1.10 (try to get numbers to calc STDDEV for BDS, second time to chrono 4.7, check to see what the numbers are close to the first time)
4.5 Autocomp @ 1.065
4.4 BE86 1.10 (get vels for 9mmepiphany at 4.4 )4.7 Autocomp @ 1.065
4.7 Autocomp at 1.10
4.7 Powerpistol @ 1.065
5.2 Powerpistol @ 1.065
3.7 Titegroup @ 1.10
3.9 Titegroup @ 1.10
4.0 Promo @ 1.10
4.3 CFE Pistol @ 1.10
4.7 CFE Pistol @ 1.10
(5 rounds at 4.9 CFE to check on getting to 5.1)
5.1 CFE Pistol @ 1.10 (listed MAX)

4.3 WSF as a control as they shot well for me before.

Now let's just hope I have a day where I can hit the target......:p as I do occasionally suffer from bouts of the dreaded CHS.

Also loaded up 300 .45 so I got tired and did not load HP38 and Bullseye today.
Maybe the best of these and Bullseye and HP38 next week.
Same loading procedure as before, nothing special, mixed range brass.
Lee "Deluxe 3 hole turret", Lee dies, Lee Pro Disk measure.
Scaled charges to determine correct throw weight then checked them 10 rounds. Spot check on OALs as well once set.

Sorry everybody.
Unable to test today.
Will aim for next weekend, or maybe later in the week if I can get some "payback" time for working on the weekend.

Working this weekend again. :banghead:
I did have a chance to do some quick testing at the indoor range, but was struggling today. :uhoh: (normally I only have to shot one or two targets to get a decent one) I shot a couple of decent groups with HP38.
Having a tuff time with my controls as well today...sigh)
HP38 charges as thrown by Lee Pro disk. Charges spot checked while loading.

I think these bullets shoot really well, I just need to do my part.

I am taking some vacation soon so I will get to the outdoor range for more testing and chrono numbers.

Offhand BDS.
Thanks Artofgolf!

I didn't all show the struggling ones. :D Wouldn't want anyone to hurt themselves falling out of thier chair laughing.
Even tried a couple different targets and different color markers to highlight the centers.
(print them off on my BW laser, fairly cheap, like the highlighted center of the diamond, was trying the round ones to see if they helped :))

Vacation and more tests coming......
T - 2 days and counting......:)

If I am shooting well I am ok, If I am not and start to think about (and try to make changes) I mess myself up. (have the same problem when I play golf)
Atttaching the target files in case anybody wants to print some, I filled in the center with color in some, just in case anyone is using a color printer.

For some reason my brain just needs to be on "Cruise Control", don't think, just shoot. Struggling below....
Everything off to the left, high, low, some in the middle aaaarrrrggggg. (nothing wrong with the ammo just me, was doing the same thing with my control loads)

Rats, can't even blame it on the wind since I was at the indoor range.

Dudedog, I also have some difficulty finding the spot I want to hit on the target. My eyes get tired and have a difficulty in focusing.

This is why I make my own funky looking targets. I have a black dot roughly the size of my front site dot where I line up my front site underneath it. Then I have a big enough rectangle below it using a bright color that shows up on the sides of the front post when I line it up. Since I shoot a Sig, POA should be POI, and the holes should in in the pink area.

For now this works for me until it does not, then I will blame the target again and design another one.

Dudedog,
I know what you mean with the CHS syndrome. I suffer from it regularly.

I did manage to squeak this out last weekend.
4.1 gr of Titegroup at 1.125 in my Shield at 7yd offhand standing.

I don't shoot like that very often any more, not enough practice. I did hit the bulls eye 5 out 6 times on a 4"target at 7yds.

I won't be done with my project at work until end of this year and next week have to hit the road to Nashville to go equipment shopping again.

I ordered another box of 1K of RMR's thick plate 124gr bullets and want to do more BE-86, Universal and Long Shot testing with them.

My Shield like LongShot in the higher loadings and can't wait to test some of those loads.
