I've finally gotten around to building another upper or one of my ARs and have come to the point where I need to install the flash suppressor (yes, I it's a pre-ban). This is the first time I've built an upper myself.

But, seems I forgot to order the washer to time the suppressor. I was looking at a couple of sites for parts and noticed that there are three types that can be used....or, at least they're referred to by three different names....Peel, Crush and Lock. What's the difference between them and which do I choose? I have no idea.

Is your flash supressor timed? Does it need to point in a certain direction?

Well, even if it doesent, order a peel washer.
Then just use the whole washer and tighten down.

If the vents on the flash suppressor need to be pointed in a certain direction, order the same thing, a peel washer.

When you get the peel washer, get a razor blade and cut into its side. It looks very much like a normal washer. It took me three days to figure out that it was a peel washer, for I had thought they sent me the wrong thing.

Just peel off layers untill your FS is timed to the correct direction.

Be aware though, that some slices from the peel washer can come off paper thin, and are very fragile. Some tear while being pulled away from the main washer. Be very patient.

I'm partial to crush washers because they seem like the least work. Just crank them down and you're done. They're also nice when using a suppressor that is made for shorter threads than the 5/8" on the AR.
